Interesting Experience
House was very nice and well appointed. Ample towels and blankets, well furnished kitchen. Location is convenient to downtown, and quite pretty.
There was misalignment between owners written check-out instructions, and actual checkout expectations.
All sheets and towels were in the laundry room, all trash had been collected and taken out to the curb, the dishes were loaded into the dishwasher and the machine was started.
We were out the door at 10 am as instructed.
Host called me at 11:22 am. Refused to identify themselves, demanded I tell them my age. I hung up.
Host called back at 11:23 and quite rudely insisted that I had 1) trashed the house 2) disrespected her and the property 3) Lied on my VRBO profile.
I offered to return to the property and make things right, this offer was accepted.
Hosts primary complaint was a dirty sink and kitchen table. We cleaned those off, cleaned the fridge, stove, and microwave. Swept the floor upstairs. I made a tour through the house to ensure there was nothing broken or bodily fluids misplaced. I found nothing.
If you want your guests to tidy up leave the written instructions as they are. If you want guests to clean up- change your checkout instructions.
If guests misinterpret your checkout instructions - don't call and berate them.
If said guests do their best to make the situation right in your eyes, maybe apologize for the nasty phone call.
The house is great, the location is great, clarify host's expectations.
