Atsugi Vacations

Atsugi is a popular part of Sagamihara, Japan, a city with 650,000 residents. This popular area lies 25 miles (40 kilometers) to the west of Haneda Airport, and only 9 miles (14 kilometers) from the city’s downtown.

Atsugi is close to many of Sagamihara’s well-known sights. Among the most interesting places to explore are the fabulous Zoorasia Yokohama Zoological Gardens and the fantastic Kanagawa Prefectural Ofuna Botanical Garden. If time permits, be sure to also visit Ofuna Kannon and Enoshima Aquarium.

To better understand Sagamihara, visit one of its fabulous cultural destinations. Spend part of the day discovering the exhibits at Anpanman Museum in Yokohama, the Shinyokohama Raumen Museum and Cupnoodles Museum. Enjoy the beautiful exhibits at the Yokohama Museum of Art in Yokohama. Go and see a live show at the Kanagawa Kenmin Hall in Yokohama.

If you are travelling with kids, give them a chance to let off some steam at the child-friendly attractions nearby. Stop by Tama Zoo in Hino and Nogeyama Zoo in Yokohama, to experience some of the most interesting creatures in the world.

If the sun is shining, do what the locals do and appreciate the nearby green spaces. On a sunny day, visit Kishine Park in Yokohama, one of the places where families can enjoy a little slice of tranquility. Put on your hiking shoes and enjoy the nature parks for which this area is well known, like Mount Takao in Tokyo. Walk along the coastal destinations nearby such as Yuigahama in Kamakura, Shichirigahama and Inamuragasaki.

Wander the streets and discover the many fascinating attractions Sagamihara has to offer. For a tour of the nearby historic attractions, visit Odawara Castle in Odawara and Hachioji Castle in Hachioji.

Head to the mountains around Sagamihara and enjoy the various wintersports at Snova Mizonokuchi in Kawasaki and Snova Shinyokohama in Yokohama.

If you're a fan of soccer, be sure to catch local favorites, the Yokohama F. Marinos, doing battle in nearby Nissan Stadium, Yokohama. On game days follow the procession of blue, red and white, to the stadium, then after the final siren sounds, join fans in the nearby pubs for a post-game drink.
