“A First Class Restoration”
The owners have done a fine job taking an old western hotel and restoring it. Much is original, and the pieces which aren't are well chosen. The staff was friendly and helpful. Our room had all the modern conveniences, but either hidden or built in so they didn't intrude on the antique feel of the place.
There are minor quibbles. The place feels wooden and creaky inside, so one on the third floor begins to wonder how he would escape a fire. Our door was right next to the fire exit, which was a stair lined with sheet rock; but we would have to go out into the hallway to reach it.
And the bathroom, carefully incorporating antique-looking but modern fixtures, lacked any convenient workspace for toiletries, hair dryer and the like.
We found the restaurant at dinner, and the breakfast room in the morning, to be comfortable and reasonably priced, and our food was tasty.
We look forward to staying there again, and feel it is worth a detour just to do so.
