Lazy Bear Family retreat Mountain Cabin

Lazy Bear is the perfect getaway for travelers that want to experience the peaceful seclusion only the Great Smoky Mountains can offer. The cabin is nestled on the side of a mountain with woods on three sides that provide a sense of total privacy. This location is a short drive from all the popular area attractions our region has to offer, you'll be away from it all while still close to everything! Enjoy the shopping and dining of downtown Bryson City, the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad, or the Deep Creek entrance into the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, all located about 30 minutes from the cabin. Or enjoy boating and fishing on Fontana Lake or the exhilarating thrill of white water rafting on the Nantahala River located about 20 minutes from the cabin. You can enjoy the Harrah's Casino in Cherokee or experience the magic of the Oconaluftee River hiking trails & tubing, go sightsee at the popular Mingo & Soco waterfalls, or play a round at the Sequoyah National Golf Course, all located about 40 minutes away.

Exterior:
From the parking area a set of stairs lead up to the back of the cabin and the main entrance. The large open back deck is an extremely private spot to relax. Here you will find a wonderful covered hot tub shielded from any potential weather interruptions, along with the gas grill and dinette table for 6 is a great spot to enjoy diner in the fresh mountain air. Two covered decks on the front of the cabin are accessed from within. The upper deck is on the entry level. From this deck the view is the star attraction. Just take some time to sit in one of the rocking chairs and watch how the shadows change the shape of the mountains as the sun races across the horizon. Taking time to watch nature like this can truly calm a restless mind and who doesn't need that?

Entry:
This cabin has a great open floor plan creating a spacious atmosphere. The kitchen is fully equipped with all appliances, dishes, and cooking utensils. The open great room features a full view of the gas log fireplace and satellite tv in the living room area. The largest and possibly most inviting feature of the living room is the huge leather sectional sofa. This sofa has room for everyone to settle in and enjoy the gas log fireplace and satellite TV. Directly behind the sofa and across from the kitchen is the large dining table that seats 8 guests. To the right of the entrance door is the half bath and just past this is a small hallway that leads to the master bedroom with a king size bed, satellite tv and en suite bath with standing shower only.

Lower level
On the left side of the stairs is two rooms. The first is a family room with leather sofa, and tv. The second room is the game room with poker and billiard tables. To the right of the stairs is the large third bedroom. This room has a king size and a twin-size bed. A satellite tv is positioned across from the beds. This floor also has a full bath with a shower only.

Upper level
At the top of the stairs from the entry level is an open loft sitting area. Also upstairs is the second bedroom and full bath. This bedroom has 2 queen beds with the full bath equipped with a tub shower combo.

It was good but did have some problems
We are a family of 7 adults. The accommodation fit us perfectly and was well equipped with the exception of towels for the hot tub. I was very happy that we were all able to sit on the couch comfortably at the same time AND the dining table had enough room for us all. The spacing was perfect! I will also say the management company was awesome and responded to my need in a timely manner. With the being said, the house was a bit neglected. The basement needs some serious attention as it was a bit dingy. When 3 20 years boys make that statement, you know it’s bad. I also had to do some cleaning, starting with having to empty the vacuum cleaner! Even though the kitchen was well equipped, I had to call the management company because the liner of a pan was peeling out. They did bring me new ones later in the day. Lastly the drive to the cabin will definitely require a 4x4 or all wheel drive. You definitely need to be an experienced driver to get there and miss the giant hole at the base of the driveway which needs to be repaired. Thank goodness days before my trip I called the management company to ask about the drive because my mini van would have never made it up the mountain. I ended up renting a car. As much as I loved the spacing of the cabin and the responsiveness of the management company, I do not think I would stay here again.

It was a great start
It was really great, we really enjoyed it. Hated that we couldn't play pool due to the sticks being broke, and couldn't use the polls hitting the walls. Plus the scrabble pieces were missing. Overall the cabin was great and we can't wait to go back.

Wonderful True Mountain Home
We just fell in love with this place! Everything was just perfect! The kitchen included way more spices and such then I expected. The living room was so cozy and was a great entertaining area. We loved the living room m sofa and the cute sitting area by the door. We took two young girls and 4 teenagers and everyone had they own area. Hot tub was nice and the view is truly spectacular. We enjoyed being about the only one on the mountain. It was very quiet and peaceful. We wished the pool table was a bit nicer and there isn’t satellite downstairs. But the teenagers survived just fine, they enjoyed the setup of the downstairs area and the many other activities down there.

Lazy Bear Comfort
The home was nice and cozy, most everything worked. We had a couple minor issues we reported but over all it was very nice. The property manager ensured if we needed anything they would be more than happy to assist us.

Disappointed
The first night we were at the cabin we discovered the DirectTV didn't work. Called manager, maintenence was quick to come check it out. He couldn't figure out the problem. Then someone called who said it worked just fine, but due to poor cell service the call dropped and we never heard back. Spoke with manager the next day, by then we had figured out how to get a few channels, although they were constantly buffering. Called back again 2 days later after hearing nothing and still no help. Wasn't a big deal during the day as we were out but in the evenings it would have been nice to be able to watch SOMETHING. Hot tub smelled bad and needed new cover, decided we didnt want to use it. Some of the lights didn't work. Enjoyed the views, would recommend 4 wheel drive to get to the property. The cabin was clean, and had lots of outdoor amenities.
