"Plain Jane...no frills, but decent for the price"
Look up hotels in Fort Dodge, and you aren't going to find too many (read: NONE) posh, higher end hotels like you would in a more populated area. Knowing that going in, I chose the least seedy looking place on the list when I made my reservations.
Go in prepared...you ain't in Chicago, or something, here, kid. Look at what you paid for this room, and, accepting THAT, let's discuss the Quality Inn of Fort Dodge, Iowa:
My check-in process went just fine, and I was given a room on the 2nd floor. For anyone with mobility issues, please note that THERE IS NO ELEVATOR! It was nothing more than an annoyance for me, since I only had one bag, but for some, this could be a turn-off.
There was nothing awe-inspiring about my room, but all the basics were there: in-room A/C with individual control, HD TV on the dresser, two beds with clean sheets and 3 pillows each, a relatively modern bathroom (nice newer granite countertops. The bathtub was aging a little bit, but perfectly fine), plenty of water pressure and hot, hot water!
My bed squeaked a little when I got in and out of it, but I found it to be perfectly comfortable, as were the pillows. I realize this is subjective, but I liked it.
Combine that with an actual HOT breakfast that was on par with many more expensive hotels, and Wi-Fi that was plenty peppy for general surfing...WHEN IT WORKED. It was up and down for my entire stay, but overall...for the money...you could do worse.
