Welcome to Gulfview Retreat, where we are celebrating 15 years in business, welcoming guests from around the world. GVR is a totally renovated, raised cottage in Galveston's historic East End, one block from Seawall Blvd and a short walk to the Pleasure Pier. It is perfect for Houstonians looking to get away for a long weekend, for visitors wanting a one-week summer vacation, and for our snowbirder friends who often come to the Island for a month or longer. We have many guests who are associated in one way or another with UTMB, many from the LGBTQ community, and many who like the idea that they can bring their dog along with them. (Sorry, NO cats).


We have welcomed visitors from across Texas and the US, from Canada, Mexico, and Europe. We are one of the few rental homes that offer one-night stays for our pre/post cruise visitors. We are 5 minutes from the Harbor.

Enjoy the breeze and the view of the Gulf of Mexico from our covered front balcony. We are 5 minutes to the Strand Shopping District, Cruise Terminals, and UTMB.


The home is designed to be casual, with all the conveniences our guests expect from a vacation rental. It is decorated in a colorful, retro, mid-century modern style, with totally refinished hardwood floors, modern appliances, and original artwork by Houston area artists. Amenities include: central AC, on-site washer/dryer, granite countertops, all modern appliances in kitchen, flatware/dinnerware for 12, free internet access, all linens, towels, beach towels provided.

We have been pleased that our guests enjoy their 'home away from home' and we strive to make your stay with us relaxing and enjoyable. Since the managers live full-time in the neighborhood, we are available should any questions or concerns arise. We're glad to recommend our favorite restaurants, beaches, and excursions. We pride ourselves on having the house clean and ready at the time of your check-in.

We ask that you treat our home the way you treat your own home (eg we ask that you load the dishwasher and empty the trash at check-out). Since we love dogs, 2 max. We have a new, totally-fenced dog run that goes around the property, and your dogs will love being one block from the beach!

The place was done well and gives walkable access to the beach and restaurants. We've stayed in 3 vrbo's in Galveston and Id say they all have their quiks but this one had the fewest. I appreciated Tony's comment "you paid for cleaning so you dont have to do anything. That was a first for all of our VRBO experiences and I found it refreshng. Everything was clean and in good condition. The beds were comfortable and the place was well furnished. My only negative was that I searched specifically for a whole house rental. This is not that. It has a unit in the basement. I looked back at the ad and I didnt see a mention but I could of missed it. I believe a gathering area is underneath the main bedroom as I was listening to a conversation while lying in bed last night. Still this is a wonderful place and would recommend it.

Holidays at the Beach
Though the Gulf View is only from the front porch, this roomy, nicely decorated house is only a block from the beach and in a nice safe neighborhood. Like most of the old houses in Galveston, there's a flight of stairs to get to the front door that is the tradeoff for having the Gulf of Mexico so close to your door. All in all, this is a really nice place with equally nice owners.

Cottage was clean and fully furnished with everything you need, bring your own food of course. Very good and convenient location for many attractions and shopping. Walked to Saltgrass Steakhouse for supper one evening and a short drive to excellent seafood restaurants. The only downside was the very small and unkept dog run.

Great beach cottage!
A great little beach cottage. Everything that we needed was there. We visited in the off season and the neighborhood was pretty quiet. And we loved being able to walk to the beach or out to dinner. Our only complaint is that there was a pet smell in the main bedroom. I think maybe that rug needed to be replaced or cleaned. Otherwise the cottage was spotless. Thanks so much for a great quick trip before the holidays!

Great home and location
The home was gorgeous! Hardwood floors, historical features, and lovely decorations. Everything was included and there were thoughtful additions such as doggie bowls and leashes. We read and perused the Galveston history and picture books, and we learned things about Galveston we never knew, even though both of us are native Houstonians. Also a great location. Close to beach, Strand, and nightlife. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

Great house with short walk to the beach
My wife and I stayed at the house during Mardi Gras and we surprised and pleased to see the outside of the house decorated and o know ng cake on the counter. The house is in a great location with a short walk to the beach and to our favorite bar Longboard. The house was perfect for my wife and I including our two Italian Greyhounds. The owners were easily accessible and provided great support. I would recommend this house for anyone wanting to enjoy Galveston.

We stayed during the coldest days of December 2022! Like 11 degrees! Tony came over on day 2 our 4 days to check on us and make sure the water had not froze! Excellent service our entire visit. We will definitely come back in the summer, the location is perfect for heading to the beach!! Check in and check out is very easy and this unit is dog friendly! We brought our toy poodle and had no problems at all. There was even dog bowls, poop bags, and leashes available for our use. We were very pleased with our 4 days at this property.

Awesome location and pet friendly! The managers of this place were incredible. When we booked it originally several months ago we did not know our dog would be on doggie hospice at the time of this trip. Tony came through in a big way for us to help our doggy be super comfy while we were out and about enjoying the beach and city. We were very thankful for his kindness. Location is great and close to lots of eating locations, Murdochs for souvenirs and having parking is definite a plus this close to the Seawall. The Spa at the Grand Galvez is an easy walk from the house.
