Nice and quiet!

Posted Feb 21, 2014
Pros: Quiet (in Feb.) on several days I was the only one having breakfast at 8 a.m. Views of mosques and Bosphorus from the 5th floor restaurant.
Cons: There's a long 'bar', but no alcohol - very disappointing (even though there are bars and restaurants elsewhere).
Although the Sultanhan is only just off the main road of Divan Yolu, it was nice and quiet. February is a good time to go - chilly at times, but nice and sunny, and no massive crowds (couldn't imagine going in summer!) Just down the road there are lots of decent restaurants off to the left. Before the road bends to the left, you have the Blue Mosque, Aya Sophia, and Topkapi Palace. Also don't miss the Basilica Cistern near the 'Milion' milestone pillar.

stay here when you visit Istanbul

Posted Jan 13, 2014 on Hotels.com
Service was great with really friendly and happy staff. Staff always greeted you and made you feel very welcomed at this hotel. It is walking distance to Grand Bazaar, Hagia Sofya and The Blue Mosque. You can even walk over the Galati Bridge to the new city of Istanbul from the hotel. There are some really beautiful tile shops in the Arista shops not far from The Blue Mosque. The tiles you see in these shops are like pieces of art that I didn't see anywhere else in Istanbul. Explore the back streets as there are intesting shops and cafes.I loved Istanbul as the people are friendly and the location the Sultanhan Hotel is perfect!!!!

Perfect location and a lovely hotel

Posted Jan 5, 2014
Pros: Location and staff
Cons: More flexible hours for the bar/restaurant
Perfect location. Walking distance to many sites, eg Blue Mosque, Basilica Cistern, Grand Bazaar, near a well-connected tram stop, and a short taxi to loads else. Hotel staff were lovely and knowledgeable. Charming building and comfortable rooms. Entirely appealing and adequate breakfast buffet in rooftop restaurant with great views. Only criticism would be that during the winter [there between Xmas and New Years'] restaurant didn't seem to be open in the evenings, which particularly with the views, would have been nice for a drink or light bite in the evenings.

Delightful Experience

Posted Nov 21, 2013
Pros: Many "things" to like but in particular the rooftop restaurant for buffet breakfast in the morning. Sun-kissed, great views. and simply delicious !
Cons: Nothing to really "improve" other than limited English speaking by the locals (only our concierge had decent English speaking capability)
Location: All of historic Istanbul is at your feet including Spice Market, Grand Bazaar, Hamams (Turkish Baths), great restaurants, etc.
Great location on a quiet side street (Piyer Loti) in a handsome building right in the middle of the Old Quarter (Sultanahmet), 5 minute walk to Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Grand Bazaar, Cafes, restaurants and shopping. While we were there, they were even shooting a TV commercial right in front of the building (because of it's beauty and ease of traffic--which is notoriously "awful" in Istanbul). Rooms were very clean, elegantly appointed, Free Wi-Fi and staff (as all Turkish people we met) were very helpful and friendly. It wasn't a steal but well worth it !
