From Itamonte, the well-known city of Rio de Janeiro is approximately 110 miles (177 kilometers) to the east.
Itamonte isn't the only place in this popular region worth seeing; visitors should also head off and experience the charms of the surrounding scenery, cities and towns. Engenheiro Passos, lays 19 miles (31 kilometers) to the northwest, and Cruzeiro is located 20 miles (32 kilometers) to the north.
Aparecida, is another good spot to discover. It is about 45 miles (72 kilometers) from Itamonte and offers a diverse range of things to do and see, for example Itaguassu Mountain, Cruzeiro Hill and Aparecida Shopping Center. Kennedy Square, Pendiao Stadium and Basilica of Our Lady of Aparecida are some more popular places to see for those who have time left.
Sample a little culture, learning and lore under the bright blue sky at the region's open-air museums and open-air markets. To get a real sense of a region, it's good to understand the past. Minas Gerais 's colorful old towns provide a wonderful starting point.
