With more than 600 birds representing 200 species, including several rare and nearly extinct breeds, the National Aviary is one of Pittsburgh’s most colorful and unique attractions. Look up through the boughs of tropical rain forest trees and spot the colorful wings of a parrot or lorikeet among the foliage. In the wetlands area you’ll see flamingoes, pelicans and spoonbills feeding. The size of the sea eagles in Eagle Hall is guaranteed to impress. There’s plenty at the aviary to keep the entire family busy for a morning or afternoon.Eight separate walk-through areas, including three free-flight exhibits, take you on a tour of the world’s different species of birds. Admire the awe-inspiring 10-foot (3-meter) wingspan of majestic condors in Condor Court. Children in particular will be thrilled to let a rainbow lorikeet take nectar from their palm in the Lories & Friends area.Interactive shows, including feeding and tricks, are scheduled throughout the day to give you ample opportunities to get to know the birds. One of the most popular shows is the feeding at Penguin Point. Small children will love the Little Peepers shows, which focus on observing and interacting with a variety of different birds.Catch a glimpse of the rare Bali mynah, one of the aviary’s breeding program success stories. You’ll also enjoy a close-up view of other exotic birds, such as the bare-necked fruitcrow and the paradise tanager, with its vivid plumage of green, red and sky blue.If you get hungry during your visit, head to the Kookaburra Kitchen, which serves a range of meals and snacks throughout the day. The National Aviary is located in West Park, on Pittsburgh’s historic North Side. The aviary is open daily and there is a charge for entry. Parking is available nearby for a fee.

5/5 - Excellent
A little small- only took about an hour to do everything there. My daughters did the toucan feeding and they absolutely raved about it! Clean, staff was friendly and great at educating people around them. Beautiful place!
