“nice staff & nice hotel”
The White Sands Hotel in Negril is a nice hotel. The grounds are kept very well and the staff is friendly from the office staff to the hotel bartenders to the gardeners. The staff will gladly answer your questions on where to go to party on certain nights, and give you tips on where to eat and how much to pay for taxi ride to places like Rick's Cafe.
“not at all what u see on the internet!!!!!!!!!!!”

“Go back every year and can't wait!”
As they say, the best hotel value on Negril beach from a price standpoint, from a service standpoint, from an ambience standpoint. Tony and Paul run a fantastic beach bar. Horace and Maureen grill up the best breakfast. Dylan and others provide excellent security on the beach and all over the property. It's like going home to visit family. If you want the all-inclusive, luxury experience, the White Sands is not for you. If you want a small family run place that's clean, reasonably priced and where you meet the same staff year after year and sometimes the same guests as well, then WS is something to think about. I've been to WS probably for the past 10 years and I would never stay anywhere else ... it's heaven on earth! Can't ever wait to go back. Give it a try, you won't be sorry ... it's the best!
“loved it enough to want to take my family”
trip date : june 2011: The whole hotel is divided into two sections. The office, pool and rooms on the across the street from the beach( the highway is a bit scary to cross but totally manageable). The other half is beach side and where we stood. My husband and I went for our honeymoon and had a blast! We loved the fact that we were on the beach. The bar and grill serves great food and drinks at affordable prices. the staff at the bar are very nice too! it is also near white stripe water crafts which is who we used everyday of our trip! shabah and leon @white stripe made our stay at white sands even more exciting! They even hooked us up with a personal charter of the inner countryside. During our stay we mainly wore our swim suits and a pair of shorts to throw over if you go off the beach. dont forget your off bug spray at night.
“Don't get one of the 6 rooms about the size of walk in closet ( request next to bar / beach )”
If you like stepping back into the past, these rooms closest to the main road and on the beach side of the road are for you. If you don't mind being on display when changing clothes even with the translucent curtain is drawn closed, those walking by can see into the room for the picket fence isn't conjoin on one side of the railing, thus allowing focus of inside and out side. The room is little bigger than a walk in closet. The wooden bed on a tiled floor, I was able to tell when moments of passion occurred with the guest above me. I took note that the maids wore white outfits, the morning of my departure, no knock on the door but the door handle rattling and seeing the door lock and unlock repeatedly to the next stage of someone attempting to push the door in. I looked through the blinds of the bathroom to see she has recruited a gardener to assist in get the door open. I then shared check out isn't until 12noon and both left including the maid in blue with no cart. As for the shower I found you have to be clever, for it is all hot or all cold, for it shuts off between the two. Hint run the hot water first, then go for the cold just a little and the pipes still hot will heat the cold water. $25 shuttle Montego Bay to Negril but $75 to go back, no shuttle only taxi. FOOTNOTE; only place I got change back was Burger King, so best not to present any larger payment denomination then discussed price issue or you lose. My luggage was bigger than the frig there.
“BEWARE - Big Mistake”
This was our 3rd trip to Jamaica, never had this nightmare. We expected this place to be a little rough, due to the price. It was just ok, but the desk clerk was completely uninterested in helping. We requested an upgrade room & were told no, since we hadn't reserved one, even tho we were willing to pay the difference. The pool was dirty & the lights didn't work. The worst was that my husband had gotten sick from something he ate, I cleaned up everything, but the bedding. We returned to our room the next day and the SAME MESSED SHEETS WERE ON THE BED, the SHEET HAD BEEN TURNED AROUND SO THAT THE MESSED PART WERE AT MY FEET. Mind you, we had tipped hskpg generously b4 leaving the room. We were not notified at check-out, but found after we returned home that we had been charged $40 for a cleanup fee. Again, I had cleaned up with a beachtowel we had brought with us, the only thing they had to do was the sheets and they did not even do that. There was also an issue with a local who had found my bag on the beach-we tipped him $20, only to be approached in the hotel restaurant for more money and he requested that I give him my cell phone to pay for finding my bag. He then showed up outside our room the next day, asking for money again. This man sat at the bar on more than one occasion, so obviously the hotel knew him. How did he get our room number? We checked out a day early, even though it was pre-paid thru Expedia, and went to another hotel.
“Great Value”
The hotel was a great value, the wireless internet worked great in our room.
“Seven Miles of White Sandy Beach”
The White Sands Negril is right in the middle of the seven mile Negril beach. The hotel property is right on the beautiful white sand beach and azure colored crystal clear water of the Gulf of Mexico. Interestinlgy NO rooms are right on the water. Some are on the beach side of the highway and some are on the other side of the highway. The difference is not greatly significant, but we were glad we were on the beach side of the road. Interestingly, the hotel, though modest, has a strong repeat business of many people who have come there for years e.g. 4 to 30 years in a row from those we met. We were there over new-years. Everyone is nice -- guests and staff. I took along my own electric alarm clock. Don't bother. The electricity, although expected 110 volts (uses standard plugs), it is apparantly 50 megahertz instead of normal 60 megahertz cycles so the clock kept time at about an 80 percent rate -- on the first day, we thought we were waking up at 6:30 am and it really was about 9:30 am. Small matter, but interesting. My cell phone actually has a pretty good alarm clock built in. Enjoy, ... you will like it. (Hopefully Google maps gets the location fixed, we were a bit fearful that the hotel might be unexplainably in the mountains per the Google map location and not on the beach -- not true.
“Excellent location, a very simple hotel with no frills”
The White Sands Negril is split between beachfront property (where we stayed) and the other side of the main street. The rooms are spacious but a bit spartan; the bar is right on the beach and serves a decent breakfast. You can't beat the location and it is a very affordable place if you can forego the niceties.
“Not impressed”
Not impressed because: I did not think it was value for money.. No TV. There is need for renovations in the room I stayed in. The ledge that meets the tiles along the wall in the bathroom and along the floor needed cleaning - there was a lot of dust. Dirt on window ledge. Overall room looked run down in comparison to what I am used to. I have stayed at hotels in the US and the UK which were standard (with two double beds), TV, soap, shampoo, hair dryer, iron, and other amenities etc. and they would score 100% better than this room.
