A fine location for a visit to Nice
Posted Jan 5, 2013
An excellent location within convenient walking distance of the waterfront and to two very fine restaurants in the vicinity, at least. The hotel owner/manager, Gilles, was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the restaurants and other useful stores and a laundry within the "neighborhood." We very much enjoyed out 2-day stay at Hotel Victor Hugo.

Great couples boutique hotel
Posted Jan 23, 2013
Pros: Cosette (the owner dog) greeting you in the morning as you leave your room!
Location: Very central yet away from the hustle and bustle
Great host, location and very nice quaint rooms. Cosette (the owners dog) certainly helped give a feeling of home! Highly recommend this hotel for couples wanting a very tidy and secure boutique hotel in a great area.

The place to stay in Nice!
Posted Jan 17, 2012
Fantastic boutique hotel. The hotel service provided by the manager/owner, Gilles is excellent. He was very helpful and also accommodating when our travel plans were delayed resulting in us checking in after reception had closed. He also provided us with a map and helpful tips on where to go and eat. His little dog, Cosette, is also a little charmer and so sweet that we wanted to take her home with us! The hotel itself was beautiful and very clean, had a very tasty breakfast selection and has an excellent location which made it easy to walk everywhere. Overall it was one of the best places we stayed during our 8 week trip through Europe. Would highly recommend!

This hotel only has 6 rooms. The owner is present from 8 am to 8 pm. He will return later within reason on request. Gilles is charming and helpful. Hotel on ground floor of lovely building nicely located. Generous continental breakfast included. Good size room with small fridge sink dishes etc to allow snacks in room.

Excellent Hotel Value - 4 Star Service
Posted Jan 31, 2012 on Hotels.com
This cute little boutique hotel is a steal if you can get a room. They only have 6 rooms available and are almost always full. The owner/manager was a concierge at a 4-star hotel in Paris for years and it shows. Extremely helpful with excellent multilingual skills, I was totally blown away with this hotel and it's service. A better stay here than at nearby 4-star hotels at twice the price. I stayed in the "DES RAYONS ET DES OMBRES" room for 2 nights and was very happy with it. Manager not available at night, but very secure building and guests receive outside building door key, hotel sub-section security keycode and their room key so you can come and go as you please.

Pros: Gilles the host was lovely and recommended good day day trips. Very helpful.
Location: Very central- close to the promenade and shops.
Fabulous boutique hotel in centre of NIce. Close to the beach. Gilles is a fantastic host - the room is large and it is great to have kitchenette. Airconditioning if you need it. Comfy queen size bed. Very clean and the petit dejeuner was included which was good. Great value. We will come again.

Great customer service
Posted Jan 22, 2012
Pros: The location was convenient as it was only a short walk to main shopping / nightlife area as well as the beach. The train station is also close.
Cons: Nasty sewer odor at times in the room although Giles did his best to alleviate the problem when we complained.
Location: Walking distance to heart of city (shopping, casinos, restaurants, nightlife, beach & train station).
Overall we had a good experience at Hotel Victor Hugo. The owner Giles is what makes the hotel (more like a B&B then a hotel really) worth the stay. The rooms themselves are really nothing special but a good value for the cost. Giles went out of his way to make recommendations to us for places to see as well as places to eat. He provided us with beach towels and beach mats the day we decided to head down to the sand (well rocks really). Giles was a former conciege and does a great job assisting with any questions you may have.

A lovely gem!

We stayed for 3 nights and found it to be a lovely place. Giles went out of his way to offer advice and suggestions. Location was fantastic and Giles' dog Fantine was the most gorgeous thing. A great place!
