Hippest hotel in the middle of nowhere ever!!! super cool property, decorated with wonderful indigenous art, great restaurant and very convivial and helpful atmosphere.

Wonderful staff made this stay memorable, plus the ambience and magnificent Flinders Ranges! We also lucked some live performances by John (Johno) O’Dae, roll on ‘Parachilna sunset’!

Other than the food in the hotel restaurant which was good, the room in the hotel was in the 1950's style. Many cracks on the walls, a few spiders on the high ceiling of the room, no refrigerator and the air conditionned was not powerfull enough to cool down the room temperature (it was 36 C outside) even though it was at 18 C with the fan at maximum. I did not sleep well, the room was too warm. Although the hotel is the only establishment in this town, I do not recommend this hotel.

Not much more can be expected from a place this far out in the Outback. We were very pleasantly surprised and completely satisfied with our stay. From what we saw of other places an hour or so down the road either way, we made a great choice. I'd recommend this to anyone.

Great find in the outback and good base for exploring the Northern Flinders. Website booking for guest numbers didn’t equate with accomodation bedding for some unexplained reason. Lucky we didn’t need the beds in the end.

A unique experience
It is a unique place. Famous for "feral food" - they serve a mixed grill of emu. kangaroo and camel - they also had a goat curry. Whiting and beef cheeks also available. Front bar serves as entry and meeting place. The heritage rooms are truly old ?18ft ceilings, sculptured wood chandelier and 3 wooden doves (remember the flying ducks?) on the wall. Well maintained. The bathroom maybe a touch too nostalgic - good loo, hot water but shower over the bath. Lovely sitting room. Well worth the effort. No grass - spinifex - quite desert like. Wonderful view of the Flinders Rangers - for many miles on the way.

Experience an authentic stay in the outback
Loved our stay at this authentic looking hotel in the Flinders range! The room was plain but the high ceilings and quiet made it pleasant. The hotel was full of interesting local artefacts with the staff being extremely hospitable and friendly and keen to explain local sights. The food was amazing also catering to vegetarian needs even though the specialties of the region is local meats. The bar is small and cozy; unfortunately there were a lot of flies so the outside area was a little off limits but truly it did not hinder our enjoyment of this outback experience and we would happily recommend !

We stayed at the Prairie Hotel last weekend. The dinner and breakfast were fantastic. The room was cosy, clean and comfortable. It was a wonderful outback experience overall.

Great location and lovely building.
This is the second time time I've stayed at The Prairie in 3 years. The first time the staff were rude and the prices of everything were high. I thought I'd try again, three years later. The staff had changed but were still not the friendliest. They seemed a little overworked and stressed if anything. The prices of everything were still too high for what was being delivered.

Starry starry Night
The atmosphere was very cool. We had a wonderful night in our very comfortable room and enjoyed the meal followed by the open fire outside that brings everyone together under the stars.

Comfort & Great Food in the Outback
We stayed for one night in a Heritage Room & had dinner in the Prairie Hotel. The bed was comfortable but there was nowhere to store your belongings. The bathroom was in need of some work but quite adequate for our needs. The hotel contains many interesting artefacts. Dinner was excellent. We shared the ciabatta with oil & dukkah then had fish & the feral grill for mains.

A nice surprise a long way from anywhere.
Fantastic food. Friendly, helpful staff. Comfortable room that was cool on a hot day. Take the time to go outside at night to marvel at the stars.

Beautiful, breath of modern, clean, fresh air
Greeted by our host Jane on arrival, and made to feel like her "guests". Beautiful old hotel. Rooms consists of a bedroom and ensuite off a central shared guest area, beautifully decorated. Fantastic bar and restaurant.
