Two ships in full-pitched battle stand frozen in time and in rock at a peaceful pedestrian-only outlook a short walk from Farview Point.

Bryce Canyon may be about as far from the sea as you can get, but at Piracy Point, the naval engagements of a previous time are visible. Named for the two enormous hoodoos that resemble galleons in battle standing at the outlook, Piracy Point is perfect for those seeking a quieter spot to contemplate the hoodoos without having to go on an extended hike. Take a short stroll down the tree-lined path that leads from Farview Point and appreciate the serenity of the area.

Walk down the path, whose peace is occasionally disturbed only by the rustle of a chipmunk looking for food up and down the pine trees. Spot wildflowers that grow at the base of the trees. Traipse down the flat, winding path, accompanied by nothing but the sound of pine needles quietly crunching under your feet.

Emerge from the forest onto the overlook. From here the ravine falls precipitously down into another pine forest below. Imagine the hoodoos as ships in battle. Listen to the wind and pretend it brings with it the smell of salty sea air and the cries of sailors preparing for battle. Smell the pinesap in the air, its woodsy scent reminding you of the wooden decks of the ships of the past. Walk up and down, admiring the rock formations from various angles. Then set off back to the car and Farview Point.

Piracy Point is located along a trail that is 0.3 miles (500 meters) from nearby Farview Point. It is not accessible by car. Drive to Farview Point in 20 minutes from Bryce, Utah, and use the small parking area next to the trailhead leading to Piracy Point. The park shuttle does not stop at Farview.

Entrance tickets to Bryce Canyon National Park are required to access Farview and Piracy Points. The trail is easy and, in dry conditions, can accommodate wheelchairs. To avoid snow, make this walk between April and November.
