Cozy escape close to downtown, stadiums & parks

Welcome to our renovated 1896 bungalow, we envisioned a place where visitors could cozy up, stay a while and experience city living amidst the peacefulness of park life. We believe that art is meant to be shared so we designed the home to feature colorful pieces that convey happiness. The house has been freshly renovated and decorated with a mix of modern and vintage pieces. The house is within walking distance of the 250+ acre Riverview Park so wildlife and trail adventures await!

Neighborhood description
Explore the woods at nearby Riverview Park and discover many other city amenities that are close to the house. Created in 1894, the park predates the City of Allegheny’s annexation to the City of Pittsburgh in 1907. Formed largely from farmland, today’s Riverview Park is known for its dense woodlands and steep topography. The park’s extensive network of trails invites hikers, joggers, and the occasional horseback rider into the woods. The park is also home to the landmark Allegheny Observatory, a visitor’s center, a swimming pool and activities building, the natural beauty of the Mairdale watershed, and the popular two-mile Riverview Loop. Residents enjoy the park's pool, playground, ball field, shelters and summertime concerts and movies.

The home is in a residential neighborhood close to the local Carnegie library, several pizza/sub shops, and other unique eateries. The house is within driving distance of full-service grocery stores, drug stores, coffee shops, dry cleaners, gas stations, restaurants, bars, and other night life, however, all of these types of establishments are within one or two miles. Unique to the area is the local Bread Works for delicious artistry breads.

From the house you will be able to walk out the front door and down the street into the lower part of Riverview Park. There are an extensive choice of trails to choose from if you like to hike or mountain bike. The terrain is hilly with a wide variety of flora and fauna. The park is rich in wildlife so don't be surprised to see deer, possum, raccoons, turkeys, ground hogs and the occasional fox at night. The wildlife is very docile and are used to being around people. Please remember that although they are gentle, their personal space needs to be respected.

Getting around
There is plenty of free street parking out front. You can walk, Uber or bus to just about any of the main attractions as this home is just minutes to Downtown, PNC Park, Heinz Field, AGH, North Shore dining and activities. It is within walking distance of the bus line. It is a 10-12 Uber ride to the strip district, south side or PPG Paints Arena. Easy access to I-279 and the parkway. It is about 20 minutes to the airport, depending on time of day/traffic.

The space
The Space Essentials
We take pride in offering a naturally clean, warm and welcoming space. There is a queen size bed in the master bedroom. There is free WiFi and TV with a Blu-Ray player, we keep a selection of DVD/BluRay discs on hand. The house is cleaned using only natural environmentally friendly products and we are passionate about recycling.

You can access the house anytime after 3 pm by using the keypad. The unique access code will be the last four digits of the phone number you have on file with VRBO on the day of your arrival. Other things to note
There are absolutely no parties of events allowed at the house. This policy is strictly enforced. Unfortunately there have been three incidents of people hosting parties at the house in violation of our policy that were extremely distressing. The last guest had well over 100 people and the neighbors called the police. It is a quiet family neighborhood and I do not want to be known as a nuisance house in the neighborhood. After the last incident, the neighbor’s have a zero tolerance for parties and will contact the police. If you are interested in having a few friends visit you at the house please notify me but for insurance reasons and out of respect for my neighbors I must enforce this rule. I appreciate your understanding.

The house is nice and cozy. 2 floors with top floor with bedroom and mainfloor with kitchen, living room. There is a nice backyard also which my dogs loved. We attended a concert and only stayed a night but would have been great for longer stay also.

Really enjoyed staying at this property. Conveniently located to the areas we like to visit. Fenced in backyard was nice for our dog. Really enjoyed spending time with Pearl the cat, she is so sweet. Highly recommend, we will definitely stay here again. Thanks Lisa, you are the best host that we’ve had so far.

Very comfortable, clean, cozy, well-equipped place to stay that is uniquely charming. And Pearl, the outdoor cat greeter was a nice companion on the front porch while I had my coffee on a rainy morning (she seems to only come to you if invited, a very polite kitty!). Will definitely try to stay here again if I ever come back to the area!

Short Getaway
This property was perfect for our family! Lisa was extremely sweet and even accommodated a last minute situation which she did not at all have to do- but we are so appreciative and grateful for her kindness!! The property was very clean, smelled wonderful, and was overall super cozy and welcoming! The art work throughout the house is beautiful! The shower was nice and large and the water got nice and hot! You could smell the cleanliness of the blankets and towels! The use of low-toxic cleaning products was an added bonus! Pearl, the neighbor cat was such a sweetheart! There are other free roam cats on the street also, but we did not have any issues with any animals in the yard which is great for people who have “friend selective” dogs! & I even got to feed a deer out of my hand! Our pups loved the fenced in yard, the area was quiet- the neighbors did not bother us, although they do have large dogs that will occasionally bark if they see/hear you outside, but nothing excessive or bothersome at all. Just something to note if you have dogs yourself that may alert to hearing other animals! I am already thinking about when we will be able to visit again because honestly, we travel quite often and our stay here was so comfortable and the yard made it so painless to bring our pups! Highly recommend Lisa’s property!!

Pittsburgh Game Day Stay
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Pittsburgh at this fully updated bungalow from the mid 1800’s. There’s one beautifully updated bathroom on the main floor. Lisa is an amazing host who promptly replied to every communication. She worked with us on our schedule for check in. Lisa truly takes pride in her property and it shows in her decor and cleanliness. “Pearl” the cat welcomed us as soon as we arrived. She’s truly the ambassador of the neighborhood! We would stay here again when we return to Pittsburgh for a Steelers game.

Cute bungalow
Cute bungalow. TV has about 5 channels. Not sure I would walk around the neighborhood after dark. We probably didn’t get the full experience. The stairs inside were very slippery and I slipped and broke my tailbone the first night. Kitty Pearl kept us company!

Great experience
I was so pleased with the property. The house and furnishings are very nice. Everything was very clean and well stocked. The street is quiet; and, the yard is awesome. We brought our dog who had plenty of room to run and was secure inside the gate. There is a large cabinet of DVDs and enjoyed catching up on some favorite movies on our downtime. The host provided dining suggestions nearby and was so responsive and helpful. I would definitely stay here again!

Really comfortable and adorable
Husband and I were so happy to stay here. Perfect for our dog, with fenced in area, and he really loved the front porch. The bedroom was so comfortable, and the shower too. Unfortunately too humid to enjoy the backyard altogether, or to finish the day, so we'll try another season. Lisa was available and had a great recommendation for food. And Pearl, the local cat and her friends- What a sweetheart!! I miss having cats and she filled that void every day, and made sure my super allergic husband get over it by being super cute and rubbing all over his leg. The cats liked underneath the car, so we made sure to tap the hood and call out before we started the engine...We got to see other wildlife, but our cattle dog is not a predator whatsoever. If yours is, just be aware.

Great Location, Creative Space
We really enjoyed our stay here. The location was ideal for visiting family. We were able to have a few family members over after mom's 96th birthday party. There was room to mingle and chat and having the backyard was a huge plus. We were a bit worried about the street parking, but there was virtually no traffic on the street, so it wasn't an issue. We parked a bit on the sidewalk to leave plenty of room and had no problems. It was a quiet neighborhood which was nice after some long days of travel and events. We all slept comfortably - including our pup, Lily. A couple of notes (some of these are mentioned in the listing or other reviews): * There are a lot of steps and some are steep. The steps to the front door have a well-marked oddly high step. Be careful of that. Stairs up to the bedroom and the bathroom is on the main floor while the bedroom is upstairs if that is an issue. * The yard is great. The neighbors have a barky, but seemingly friendly dog (or two)? Or pu enjoyed barking back at them through the fence once she realized they were separate from her. * Pearl and other cats are always out and about. Be careful when driving. Our dog isn't particularly cat friendly and Pearl is bold, so we had to hold on to Lily pretty tightly when she was coming in and out of the house. It was fun to sit with Pearl on the front step when Lily was at daycare, though. Pearl is a very, very sweet cat. Other than that, nothing else to highlight. The quirky space is filled with great art and has a wonderful vibe. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Location is amazing! Read if you have big dogs/dogs with prey drive
Lisa was AMAZING! It was a particularly hot weekend in April and she came to install a/c just to make us and our pup comfortable. Every amenity you could need at the house including amazing food recommendations and an amazing bathroom! All natural cleaning supplies. Amazingly close to backside of Riverview Park. Well within walking distance to the backside of the park, which is amazing when you have a very high energy pup! Nothing against Lisa or the property, but I think it’s important to note that the stairs are pretty steep, so we slept on the pullout downstairs because our large dog struggled with going down the stairs (but it’s the most comfortable pullout I’ve ever slept on!). I’d also like to mention there are MANY (mostly friendly) cats on the street with steep stairs to get to the sidewalk. If you have a high prey drive dog, be warned… You will go skiing down the stairs. Our dog also got attacked by a neighbor’s cat (Baby). Again, nothing against Lisa or the property! We’d still stay here again in a heartbeat because of how great her and her property are, plus the backyard & proximity to hiking at Riverview. We’d just be more prepared and some dogs are not cat friendly, so I think it’s important to note. Thank you Lisa! Your bathroom reno inspired our upcoming bathroom reno. Loved everything about this place :) thanks for being so kind and hospitable. You went out of your way to make us comfortable and we really appreciate it!

We have been looking for a place to stay in Pittsburgh where we could take the dogs for some time now, and found this nice spot. Yard for the dogs to run and is located close to downtown to hit PPG. Also, coming back in August for a concert at PNC. Lisa is very nice and super quick to reply to any questions. We will likely stay here multiple times a year.
