Nice but expensive

Posted Jul 16, 2015
Pros: The room was comfy for the most part and the spa was nice. The fish tacos at Mustangs and Burros we're great!
Cons: Wasn't fond of the way they put the charges through on my credit card; sporadic and those 5am updates from Amex were killing me!
Location: Not far from La Jolla Beach and tourist area but you will need a car to get there. Plenty to do in the San Diego area.
The room was clean and relatively nice but a bit noisy. The AC was loud and would make an audible buzzing noise for about a minute after it shut off. I was excited to have a little balcony but it had a view of .... bushes and small trees a few feet away. Beyond that was a parking lot. Also, anytime I opened the windows on my room to enjoy the cool breeze, there was so much traffic and other noise from North Torrey Pines Road and UCSD that I couldn't hear myself think. Also, I wish I had looked at the hidden charges before I booked this hotel - $25 per day for Valet Parking (the only parking available) and a $22 per day "resort fee" which basically covers access to the pool and 2 bottles of water per day.

Loads of hidden expenses

Posted Jul 15, 2015
Pros: Nice property
Cons: More transparency in costs, better attitude to customer fulfilment.
Look out for the compulsory valet parking they don't tell you about. Make sure you factor in the resort fee. Don't believe the price Expedia quotes for breakfast, its wrong and the hotel refuses to honour it even though its there in black & white. I get that they are in business to make money but its all too clear that that is first and foremost for them, way ahead of you having a good stay.

Pros: Had a nice pool staff was good
Cons: The carpet was frayed on the edge where the tile met the carpet.
At $500.00 a night it wasn't great, all the added fees are crazy. Restaurants were very expensive. Not to worry, I won't be back.

Remote hotel, far from everything.

Posted Jul 13, 2015
Pros: Premises.
Cons: See above.
Location: Too far from everything.
This hotel is very remote. There is nothing close by. If you need anything like meds, razor you have to drive. We did not see any stores nearby. Hotel does not have small store/ shop of any kind. The room we had on the second floor did not have any cell reception(T-Mobile, Verizon). Our room faced concrete wall, highway right there. Rooms size was adequate but not enough details, like extra garbage can, no shoe horn, no shoe polish, no sewing kit, no flip flops, no hooks anywhere, etc. Carpet in the room is not very clean.

Feast your eyes on all the plants

Posted Jun 19, 2015
Pros: The lush landscaping. Nice cafe with indoor or outdoor seating. All amenities except for drink vending machines.
Cons: It was a long walk between the cafe / lobby and our room. Access was through three HEAVY doors. It was difficult negotiating with a cane or walker.
Location: Right next to UCSD
We enjoyed everything. We would have liked being able to get soft drinks without using room service. Valet service was very prompt getting the car. The same for bellcap service. A bottle of red wine and two bottles of water were compliments of the hotel. Very nice

Noisy air conditioning unit

Posted Jun 17, 2015
Cons: cooling the room quietly , would be nice
3 sleepless nights in this beautiful facility. The A/C unit cycled on and off with a very loud metallic clunk, that woke me all night long. Apart from this, it would be a 5 star place, or 4.5.

Engagement

Perfect romantic getaway, feels like you've left San Diego and gone to Europe. Get a room with a balcony facing West. You won't regret it.

Outstanding Service!

Posted Jun 5, 2015
Pros: Incredibly comfortable bed, beautiful room, great spa and the staff was tremendously helpful.
Location: Short drive to La Jolla Shores where you can rent kayaks, paddle boards, etc. Great family beach!
We stayed at the Estancia for my 50th birthday. They made it such a special occasion. There was a gorgeous bouquet of flowers in my room upon arrival and a glass of champagne when we checked in. We thought the grounds were beautiful and it was just a short drive down to La Jolla shores where we had wonderful food and walks on the beach. Very memorable time at the Estancia!
