“Stay in Sydney...”

The Sofitel was great. Location was perfect. Close to almost all attractions and activities that Sydney has to offer. The price was very reasonable and the staff was more than helpful. My only disappointment was that wi-fi was not free. Overall, I highly recommend the Sofitel and can't wait to return.

Area recommendations
My recommendations for my fellow travelers would be Darling Harbour for restaurants. The Rocks, the oldest neighborhood in Sydney, is a great place to shop. The Botanic Gardens is great for a romantic stroll. And of course, the Sydney Opera house is a landmark worth visiting.
When to go
The best time to go is in September and October, which is springtime in Sydney. Temperatures range from 20-22 Celsius, 70-74 Fahrenheit.

“Sofitel Syndey---Extraordinary!!!”

This hotel was in the perfect location. You could walk to the Sydney Opera house, their was a flea market within walking distance, art studios, the sydney harbour bridge. It was exquisite. If you are accustomed to class, sophistication and elegance, the Sofitel Sydney is the place to stay.

Area recommendations
The business district where the hotel is would be the best place to stay. You really get a "feel" for Sydney.
When to go
I went the first of September which was the beginning of the Spring Season in Australia. Although you could use a light jacket most days/evenings, the weather was beautiful.
Getting around
We stayed in a prime location (business district) and most venues were within walking distance, including the ferries that took you to other locations.

“Lobby flowers were beautiful”

When we arrived everyone went out of there way to help with the luggage and advise where to take the rental car back. The beds were the best we slept in the whole trip, wonderful.

Area recommendations
This hotel is in easy walking distance to the quay and park,
Getting around
We bought a three day bus and ferry pass, it worked out great, plus there is also a free bus you you ride. hop on and hop off at any location on all.

“Great Location”

Overall, the room was not much more than a bed, but I wasn't travelling to Sydney to stay in my hotel room, so who cares?! The bed itself was perfectly comfortable, and the location could not be beat. The hotel was plenty clean/nice and offered a decent value vs some of the alternatives with similarly desirable locations. You won't regret staying here.

Getting there
An easy walk from Circular Quay, which you can get to from the airport by Train.

“Not Impressed”

My room was very noisy located next door to hotel lifts. Beds do need new mattresses. The value of the hotel accommodation does not correspond with the price I had to pay.

“Sydney in November”

The Sofitel was awesome! My family and I enjoyed our stay there a lot. It was out of the hussel and bussel of the busier areas of Sydney (it was in the business district) but still there was a lot of restaurants and bars close by. The decor was very appealing. Breakfast was a little pricey if it is not included in your package, but there are a lot of places close by (some close on the weekends however). The rooms were nice, very contemporary and well kept. Overall I would definitely return!

“Sweet location, great concierge staff, watch your Internet usage”

We stayed at the Sofitel for a week and though geared more for business travelers, found this a great "base camp" to explore the city. We arrived prior to checkin (like many US->Australia travelers will, they upgraded our room from Classic to Superior Room because we were staying for a while. The concierge staff helped us with Internet, restaurants (cheap and deluxe), and figuring out how to do laundry by the bagful vs. hotel piece by piece (there's a laundry service nearby or, after Internet sleuthing, we used Wash on the Rocks for same day service). Bed was better than any we stayed in prior - and I have back issues so this mattered a great deal. Expect to pay a premium for Internet service and that there is a throttle/upgrade for high bandwidth usage. Good for Internet junkies who need to get away from their jobs, but a pain if you are used to keeping/researching a lot on the Net.

Area recommendations
If you have the day to spare, it's worth taking the ferry to the Taronga Zoo. The sky tram is amazing that takes you to the top of the zoo, and the animal demonstrations are very innovative. This from someone who doesn't make a point of vistiing zoos much - the animals seemed happier than most zoos I've seen and visitors more aware of the ecology represented by the species presented.
Traveler's tip
If you love Asian food the Chinatown district had cheaper eats in general than the Rocks or Central Business District, with exception of the high end Golden Century (seafood is live before you eat it there, food good but not budget pricing). Because we are foodies we loved the Rocks seafood/yuppie eateries - Rockpool had a fabulous sommelier. Ozuma sushi was the best in the city, according to the concierge, and it blew our minds. Going to the top of Sydney Tower was a letdown for the price (Think Space Needle but no glass elevator to the top). However, we didn't do the Skywalk, which is terrifying enough that people we talked to felt the price was worth it. Walking across the Sydney Harbor Bridge is gorgeous and best for those who don't like heights - you get the fabulous views without the vertigo.

“Great hotel for a holiday”

We stayed here for 4 days and used the hotel as our hub for exploring the city. It's very central to everything including the trains making it very easy to get around. The staff was very friendly and also had great restaurant recommendations that went beyond the standard "travel guides" that we read. It was a great value and we would stay here again.

Traveler's tip
Try "Fish on the Rocks" if you want the local seafood experience. It's a $9 cab ride and well worth it! Make a reservation or you won't get in.
