Beautiful house/cabin, well maintained, lots of amenities, well stocked with kitchen pots, pans, glasses, utensils, etc. When they tell you that the last mile to the cabin is gravel and has some grades (ups and downs) believe it. We needed a mobility accessible cabin and this has much, but not all of what is needed. There is a ramp into the one story cabin and the kitchen and master bath have sinks that are open underneath to aid with wheelchair occupants. The one thing that was definitely a challenge was the shower. There are grab bars on the wall next to the toilet, but there are no grab bars in the shower stall. Also, the threshold to the shower has a sloped tile which becomes slippery when wet. For a person with one leg, this is treacherous. We managed by pulling my wife's wheelchair halfway into the shower so she wouldn't have to maneuver over the threshold. This is also difficult because the toilet is rather close to the shower entrance. So while it is 80% mobility accessible, the final 20% is an important 20%. The other issue as has been mentioned in other reviews is the noise from Highway 74. It is loud. Even though you take a very circuitous route to the cabin, the highway is literally just several hundred yards from the cabin. We did have a nice stay, but the gravel road in and out made us think twice before we made any trips to and from the cabin for store runs or trips to local attractions. We did have a very cool day in Bryson City. Very interesting small town. Recommend stopping first at the Bryson City Heritage Museum and Visitor Center. They have a great group of volunteers who appear happy to assist you with questions about the town and the surrounding area.
Note to reviewers: You can use this review or not. Please let the owners of the cabin know of our concerns about the shower.
