Yiyang isn't the only place in Hunan worth seeing; travelers should also set out to see the unique qualities of the nearby scenery, communities and cultural attractions. You'll find Shuangfu, 30 miles (48 kilometers) to the north, and Changsha 40 miles (64 kilometers) to the northwest.
Grab some transportation and spend half a day in Changsha, a regional center, located some 40 miles (64 kilometers) away from Yiyang. The place has a wide range of attractions, including Hunan University, Mount Yuelu and Hunan Provincial Museum. Hunan Forest Botanical Garden, Helong Stadium and Martyrs' Park a few of the other popular places worth investigating for those who have time left.
In many cases, the difference between being a real traveler and a tourist is a basic grasp of language, so why not take the time to practice a number of handy Mandarin words before you leave. Knowing a few basic sentences, such as "Nǐ yào bú yào gēn wǒ tiàowǔ", or "Would you like todance with me?", can make your vacation more memorable. You'll find that knowing "Zhèiwèi xiānsheng huì qīngdān", which translates to "This gentleman/lady will pay for everything", can get you a long way.
When it is time to leave Yiyang, put the lens cap back on your camera, spend your last of your renminbi, and bid a fond Zàijiàn (farewell) to this unique vacation spot.
