Hull

Ottawa
Canadian Museum of History which includes interior views as well as a large group of people
With extensive cycle paths and river views, this old-world district is lined with some of Gatineau’s finest museums and most pristine parks.

Hull is the pride of Gatineau, making up both its central business district and its oldest area. Marking the western shore of the Gatineau River, it contains many of the city’s preeminent museums and attractions. Amble through the riverside area and appreciate the views of the water and the skyscrapers of central Ottawa.

Piece together the history of the region in the Canadian Museum of History. Make your way through the exhibits in the First Peoples Hall, the Canadian History Hall and the Grand Hall for an idea of the eclectic history here. Next door is the Canadian Children’s Museum, which has all types of delights and relics for the whole family to enjoy.

Wander through the Port de plaisance Jacques-Cartier for views of the water and impressive boats. Continue along the nature trails of Jacques-Cartier Park. Rent a bicycle from the Maison du vélo, an old brick house near the coast, and cycle along the shore. The riverside bike path takes you all the way to the western edge of Hull, culminating in scenic Brébeuf Park. Sunbathe on the beach of adjacent Parc Moussette.

Try gambling at the table games and slot machines of the Casino du Lac Leamy, which stands beside a large lake with a huge fountain whose jets are visible from several blocks away.

Hull comprises the area on the western side of the Gatineau River, rising north from the Quebec border toward the Club de Golf Hautes Plaines. It is in the southwestern corner of the city of Gatineau, along Ottawa’s northern frontier. From central Ottawa, drive north across the Portage Bridge, passing over Victoria Island below, to get here.
