Avoid especially on weekend as riots still active
Downtown area where hotel is located not best area. Rooms small. Average hotel breakfast. Booked non refundable 10 months early and called 1 month ahead to request the 2 rooms booked be next to one another and was denied. Contact them for same 1 week prior and they agreed...gave us 2 of their worst street side rooms. We arrived 1 hour early and were denied early check in despite them having use of our funds for 10 months. Riots still active there in Puerto Montt during our stay Feb. 20-22, right in the street in front of thr hotel....50 plus hooded antifa types beating cars and causing mayhem, until police arrived with tear gas and water cannon tank and drove them away from our area. We could hesr them throughout the night. We watched all this go down from our windows looking down until the tear gas started entering our rooms and effects thereof. Scared the hell out of our children. This hotel is worth about half of what charged, that if no violence present. Best to avoid while unrest is still active and go to Puerto Varas 20k away....a much nicer upscale place.

Great as a stopover from Patagonia to Lake region
Great as a stopover from southern Patagonia to the Chilean Lake Region. 2 blocks from the shore and beautiful boardwalk, major shopping mall 1 block away, close to good restaurants, 10 minute walk to bus terminal. Hotel halls are beautifully decorated. Full breakfast with eggs, fruit, breads, pastries. Exercise room and sauna. Friendly staff.

A bit worn but very welcoming
Hotel Don Luis Puerto Montt might be a little old and kitschy but the staff are friendly and welcoming and the rooms were warm and comfortable. What it lacked in 'newness' and 'adequate lighting in the bathroom' it more than made up for with hospitable touches, like a complimentary drink on arrival and a tasty continental breakfast. All in all a nice, no-frills stay that was value for money.

The staff at this hotel is very nice and do their best to accommodate your needs. The hotel itself is very antiquated. The rooms are very small and the showers are even smaller. The hotel is in a very busy part of the city. The road noise is excessive. Especially because there is no air conditioning and you need to have a window open to allow for any fresh air. The breakfast is basic, but decent. Again if not for the kindness of the staff the stay would have been awful. If you do not have some basic understanding of Spanish I would not recommend the hotel as very few of the employees speak English.

Nice stay - I would stay there again.
Convenient location, great friendly staff (Natalie is a lovely girl with great English) and nice clean room. However, the room is a bit tight, no in-room tea/coffee facility and the hot water for showers could be a bit hotter.

Wonderful staff! Very helpful and caring
The hotel staff was absolutely wonderful, minus the rude restaurant staff. The breakfast buffet was great, I was pleasantly surprised. We only stayed one night, but I thought the rooms very comfortable and relatively clean, we had a great window view.

Efficient staff and great location
We found our hotel location, right near the water, shops and park, very convenient. We found a very nice, reasonably priced, popular, family-type restaurant, Tablon del Ancla, quite nearby. At the hotel, the staff was courteous, solicitous, and very efficient. The afternoon day shift head woman (not sure of name) in particular took great effort and initiative in helping us out. She even suggested their calling our rental car company when we arrived (at the close of our trip to Chile) to verify whether they would come to the hotel to pick up our vehicle so that we did not have to drive out to the airport for the return (they did, for just a 15,000 peso fee (about $25). The breakfast was ample and nice.

My specific complaints re the hotel/room are these: 1. The overall size of the room was too small. Barely able to walk around the bed and if the desk chair was pulled from under the desk, could not pass between that and the bed at all. 2. The queen bed mattress was not of sufficient quality, or was too worn not sure. It sagged. 3. The lighting in the room, particularly the bathroom was woefully inadequate. 4. I had a pretty good view of the water if I could have seen through the window, which was very dirty. 5. There was no bathtub, only a shower. I'm ok with that but the shower was approximately 28 square. Isn't that really small? 6. The bathroom door stuck hard if closed all the way. 7.No clock of any kind in the room, nor nose/facial tissues. 8. There was black mold around the bottom of the shower. Ew. 9. There were no washcloths available, only towels. That, however, is not unusual in Chile. 10. Very thin walls and ceilings, so noisy. There was construction going on overhead and often well into the night. Heard it one morning beginning about 3:30 AM. Sounded like they might come through my ceiling. After 10 days/nights there I was faily well adjusted to everything except the dirty window and moldy shower I felt I was living more in the Chilean experience of not wasting a single thing including space. The hotel where I stayed last December was pure luxury by comparison though. I missed it.
