perfect central location, so so rooms
I recommend it with reservation. The beds were way too soft. I took the light mattress off and slept on the floor to avoid a back ache. They advertised the rooms as having air conditioning and there was none. However the location was absolutely perfect, right in the middle of the old town. The staff was a bit clueless and not very upbeat. The bath was relatively new though, and the room was very clean. Breakfast was a buffet with a decent selection and the room it was in had very nice views of the street. It was not a 5 start hotel, just 3.

Get what you paid for
We reserved and pre-paid a twin room, but the first room we were assigned was a double room so small you could only get out of one side of the bed. I asked for a larger room, but was told the hotel was fully booked. I went back a second time, with my Expedia confirmation in hand and pointed out that I had reserved a twin room. Only then were we given a key to the room next door, which was larger and had two beds and two nightstands. Know in detail what you have reserved!
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
Tallinn has an old town, where Barons Hotel is located. Its very picturesque, with many restaurants and good shops, but full of day-trippers off ferries from other Baltic countries. You can get to the Outdoor Museum (west of Old Town), to the Kadriorg Palace and KUMU Art Museum of Estonia (east of Old Town) by tram or bus. All those museums are quite worthwhile
