About this property
River Queen: Historic Riverfront Estate on 3/4 acre, 5/5.5, Hot Tub, dock/boats.
The River Queen Monte Rio has long been considered one of the premier riverfront vacation rentals in West Sonoma County. Originally built in 1930, the River Queen is a unique blend of historic design and modern convenience. The ideal location for a family reunion, multi-family vacation, work / rejuvenation retreat, book club study, golfer's home base or a dear friends getaway. Highlights include: an enclosed sunroom overlooking the back decks and the Russian River – with three separate seating areas; a large redwood deck with multiple levels, seating and dining areas, and a full-sized hot tub set in a fairy ring of majestic redwoods. The historic home is prominently located just before a deep bend along the river, with sturdy and wide concrete stairs that lead directly down to the Russian River with a seasonal concrete dock. In season, generally late May - September, there are 4 single kayaks, a canoe, and inflatable flotation devices. Located within minutes of Monte Rio, Duncan's Mills and Guerneville for easy access to pastimes such as shopping ( grocery and retail ), wine tasting, the Northwood Golf Club – an Alister MacKenzie designed nine-hole golf course, hiking trails in Armstrong Woods State Reserve, and the Pacific Ocean which offers the unique experience of joining the Russian River as it flows into the ocean before heading up or down the coastline to experience many beaches, state maintained hiking trails and the freshest sea food options in Sonoma County. The house has more than 5000 square feet of living area. A wonderful place for group activities, but large enough for everyone to have their own space to relax and enjoy. The house was very comfortable and allowed our three generations to spread out. The kitchen allowed us to cook our Thanksgiving dinner as well as other meals. The large dining room table accommodated us well. I liked that the large tv on the upper level was up high and out of the way. The hot tub surrounded by trees was especially enjoyed.
A quiet place to gather, relax, float, soak, socialize and unwind. Plenty of space for a group to gather and spread out. Activities of all sorts nearby for all sorts.
We had a great time here. Lots of space and things to do. Sunroom was gorgeous. Great hiking trails close by. Overall we had a good relaxing time with family and friends.
What an amazing location - right on the river in a quaint town next to a absolute gem of a golf course. Would love to come back here. Plentiful amenities at the home with lots of entertainment, a hot tub within the redwoods, and the Russian River. Would love to come back!
The place is a gem. Spacious home with cabin vibes and great river access. Comfortably sleeps many people and there is adequate place to cook and eat for everyone.
We had such a great time at the River Queen! There are so many things to do both at the house and in the surrounding area. The kitchen is well stocked with equipment. We really enjoyed the game tables downstairs and the hot tub in the redwoods. Would absolutely stay here again if given the opportunity.
We rented the River Queen for an organizational retreat, and we loved our stay! The view from the deck (and the hot tub) is truly something special. The house is cozy and comfortable, with many unique touches.
We were celebrating our 42nd wedding anniversary. All our kids came into town and was thrilled with the size of the home. We had a wonderful 5 days. We definitely are planning a trip back in warmer weather.
Our group had such an awesome stay at this property. It was so fun to have all the water floats and boats to use. It was so nice to have the extra living room and kitchen for the teens to hangout. We would love to come visit again!
Fantastic house! We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, and loved that there was plenty of space for our big group. Comfy beds, nice big kitchen with all you could need for cooking and sharing meals. The teens especially enjoyed the game rooms with pool table and ping pong. And the river was so beautiful! We want to return every year!
Lots of room for a party of 10. Loved the views, hot tub and river access. The game room was a hit! We had many pool and ping pong tournaments. The kitchen was well stocked and had everything you could ever need for a large group. The furniture was very comfy and offered many places to sit and chat or enjoy the view
Clean spacious and very comfortable! An amazing kitchen for a group of 10 adults! The house was so large you could get lost in it! Lots of recreational activities in house and outside on the river!
Parents with 4 adult children and spouses , one infant grand child . Plenty to do for everyones interest . Cal State parks close by for hiking . River & toys were great , we brought a couple of SUP with us . Kitchen has EVERYTHING you need . Golf course close by is excellent
5 STARS all around , not a brand new mansion but nice layout , grame room excellent .
Absolutely perfect stay in Monte Rio, we had exactly 12 adults sleeping there and this house slept us all very comfortably (not all houses claiming to sleep 12 can actually back that up, this one does!). All the amenities you need, tons of fun activities in the house (access to boats and the river dock was absolutely wonderful) and plenty of space to spread out. Most of all, the place has a wonderful character and the history and warmth of the house is a delight. The hosts are superb - communicative, helpful and above-and-beyond accommodating and responsive to any needs. Already looking to rebook for 2025 for our family reunion, thank you!!!
Great family getaway with perfect access to the river
We had a mini family reunion at the River Queen. Four families with 12 people. The location is great. Pet friendly. My little Pomeranian absolutely adored the sunroom, which doubled as office space for me. Great light and views throughout the day. Plenty of options for getting on the river. The property manager, Naomi was excellent. Quick turnaround on email and phone. It’s a huge house. Plenty of towels, dishes, blankets. Bring your own shower care products. But if you do forget anything, there’s a Safeway and CVS nearby. Would love to stay here again and make this an annual tradition!
This is an amazing property! I had reservations about the property as I was hosting a small yoga retreat. I had a lot of questions as I would not be doing a site visit. Response times were very quick and they were very accommodating with my questions. Upon arrival the house was very clean, warm and welcoming. The location is like no other. From the willow tree that frames the windows, to the river view, to the amazing hot tub in a grove of redwood trees. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook and each room offered plenty of privacy. I will absolutely book again whether a yoga retreat, family reunion or group of friends. This is an amazing property and you never need to leave during the time there. Everything we needed was provided or simply available given the location.
This is a great house for a large group. There were 10 of us -- all family, ranging from 25 to 87 y.o. The premises were very clean, well appointed, and had a spectacular, large enclosed porch overlooking the river. The kitchen was supplied with everything you could possibly need. The house is perfect for grandchildren who can stay in the lower level, where there are sleeping arrangements for 7 and separate rooms for a pool table and a ping pong table. We had a great family time. Most people brought instruments and we spent many evening hours in front of the large roaring fireplace jamming on guitars and banjos. It was a very delightful stay in every way and we certainly recommend it to anyone with a large group -- not just family, but a group of good friends. Oh yes, the hot tub was magical -- sited on a raised platform surrounded by a circle of tall pines.
