Argonaut Hotel - a Noble House Hotel

"50th Anniversary/ Family Reunion Vacation"
We couldn't have chosen a better location or a better ambiance to celebrate our 50th Anniversary (plus additional November family anniversaries and birthdays) than the Argonaut. We were thrilled with the pleasant and helpful staff and the comfortable, spacious, and quiet rooms. We took Amtrak from the Central Valley of California to Emeryville and then the Amtrak bus to Pier 39, so we didn't need to contend with driving, parking, etc. in San Francisco. It was an easy walk to the hotel. One reason we chose the Argonaut was that it was fairly close to Pier 39 but away from the major tourist congestion and noise. Being next to the park and beach and just down the hill from Ghirardelli Square added to the fun. We chose to take advantage of the convenience and celebrated our anniversary dinner at the Blue Mermaid. That too could not have been a better choice. Everyone (12 of us) all chose from the variety of meals listed on the menu and no one was disappointed in his/her choice. Our attentive and friendly server, Brian, made the evening even more enjoyable. The concierge was helpful in giving us suggestions on how best to get our granddaughter to SFO so she could fly back to Syracuse University. The nautical theme of the hotel was carried throughout the decor and we were constantly noticing special touches that made the experience of staying there so special. We truly felt like royalty.

The Fairmont San Francisco

Gorgeous hotel. Very comfortable. But at these prices, free WiFi and access to fitness would be nice. When you can get that at a Hampton Inn but not a Fairmont? Doesn't add up. At this hotel the fitness center is not owned by the hotel, so will cost you $15, internet about the same for a day.

Hotel Whitcomb

"Good hotel, friendly staff, but sketchy area."
The Hotel Whitcomb is a nice looking historic hotel. The building is very old, so don't expect the quality of the building to be on par with brand new hotels. That being said, the rooms were spacious enough, and being someone who enjoys historic buildings, I enjoyed the atmosphere. The staff was pretty friendly, and the housekeeping did a good job keeping our room clean. My only complaint about the hotel is the area that its located. There is a huge homeless population that seems to stick to the area right outside the hotel, and all down market Street. It made my girlfriend and I very uncomfortable to even step foot out of the hotel without calling an Uber first. The BART station stairs , which are right outside the hotel, is very intimidating, as it is not light up at all and there is always someone sleeping on the stairs or begging for money. Lastly, there's a small park right across the street next to a Burger King that has approximately 20 or so homeless people loitering around along with all of their belongings. Obviously this is absolutely no fault of the hotel. In fact, hotel has security officers at night to prevent those who aren't guests from coming in, so I was never worried about safety within the hotel. Overall, I was quite happy with my stay at Hotel Whitcomb. Especially for being San Francisco, it is really hard to find a decent hotel at a cheap price, so If you're on a budget and don't mind the area outside the hotel, then this place is a great deal!

The Westin St Francis on Union Square

"Nice Hotel, Expensive WiFi/Breakfast"
The hotel is right in the middle of Union Square which is fantastic. The staff and room were both great. The only complaint I have is that 2 and a half days of wireless internet and one breakfast cost me $118. The breakfast was a nice buffet, but not worth the $32 per person that was charged.

"Great location, yet a quiet stay"
This hotel is close to all the action in union square. We were able to comfortably walk to Moscone center, China town and do a lot of nearby shopping. The cable car also runs right around the corner from the hotel. The hotel was comfortable, clean and quiet. We couldn't ask for more after long days of sightseeing. I enjoyed that we didn't have to go outside to have dinner since the daily grill is right next door and connected through a hallway. Great overall experience.

"Loved the atmosphere here"
Rooms were tiny but perfect for two people We got a room that said it would accomodate 3 but would not recommend unless with a child as the third. Shared bathrooms were very clean, and comfortable. Will stay again to try the restaurant. For the price it could not be beat. They even got us a ride to the airport. The licorice and massage chairs were my little guilty pleasures...Loved the old quaint and spooky feeling at night and extremely quiet. LOVED thank you!
