Ant infested

Our stay at the cottage was disappointing. From the start, we couldn’t reach anyone at the rental company for two days, which was frustrating. There was an ant infestation that seemed like an ongoing issue, given the ant traps placed all over the house. Once we unpacked groceries, the ants got into everything overnight, and we had to throw it all away.The cottage itself was much smaller than expected, and the furniture was uncomfortable. The only positive was the location, which was as advertised. Unfortunately, everything else made for a far from relaxing stay.

Disappointed

We don’t go on many vacations as a family so when you book a week long vaca and drive half way across the state and spend tons of money to enjoy yourself. You want to stay somewhere comfortable. This place was the opposite of that. I hate sharing bad reviews but I think people should be warned. Other than that. It’s a nightmare. They have a major ant problem. Expect to never fully unpack. Because you will have ants in your lug, on your tooth brush if you don’t put it away. You cannot leave anything out. No food or dishes out whatsoever. You’ll spend more time cleaning than actually enjoying your time there. There’s no ac/heat which we expected but I expected at least nicer fans/heater to be provided. The fridge has rust. The oven is very old and basically broken. The smoke alarm went off twice so don’t expect to cook there. The bathroom is so small it’s very uncomfortable. The shower barely works. Everything is so extremely outdated. For such an expensive area and for the money we just threw away on this place. Infuriates me. It’s really not that hard to have upgraded appliances and to spray for ants maybe? I regret booking this place. I should have booked elsewhere. Just because you have a vacation rental near the beach doesn’t mean you get to rip people off and give them an uncomfortable experience and also not care AT ALL.

Beach house

We really enjoyed the property and location….fyi, there’s a little leak under the bathroom sink, which destroyed the extra toilet paper. Also, the right side of the kitchen window wouldn’t close

Hear the Waves from your windows!

Lovely older beach cottage located a block away from Windansea Beach. Easy to access and had all the needed beach 'stuff'- chairs, towels, boogie boards. Garage is very tight- smaller cars only! Windansea beaches are wonderful- rocky shoreline with medium surf. Bring wetsuits!

Great Location

Cute little cottage, great location. My only complaint was there were ants inside the house that got into our belongings. I said something to the property manager about it and they said there were traps out but nothing else. Otherwise, it was a cute place and again, can’t beat the location.

Outstanding location, charming house

Steps away from Windansea Beach, an incredible gem of a beach. The house is a charming bungalow with great old custom windows that crank out - they capture the charm of the time when this house was built. The house & neighboring houses/apartments that all belong to one group are surrounded by a brick patio with great plants in pots and growing on the homes. There is a great tree in the back of the home that provides beautiful shade but the patio still has sunny spots. Washer & Dryer along with a clothesline out back were so nice to have on the property. The kitchen is well stocked - great Ninja blender, pots, knives, really everything you’d want except for a dishwasher. The reasons that I did not give a 5 star rating is that on VRBO it lists a dishwasher which is not there and there is a mold problem in the bathroom- it smells like mold and the bedroom is right outside of the bathroom so the bedroom also has a mold smell. I contacted the property managers on day one of our weeklong stay about it & asked if they had an air purifier that they could bring by. The response was no, they do not have an air purifier and that it’s an older home and that is why it smells musty. I live in a 300 year old home on the coast so I know that the mold is not due to the home’s age. That was a disappointing response. That being said, I would absolutely stay in this home again if they solved the mold issue - or I would stay in another of the homes/apartments on the property, it’s beautiful.

Beautiful beach. The ants in the apt drove me out of the bed

Enjoyed surrounding area. The apartment needs Pest control, and updating. I slept on the couch because the ants 🐜 invaded the bed. If we left any food item on the counter for a minute, the ants came again.

Shameful business practices

With the magic of good photography it looks good from a distance but close up is another story. Property was short on expected supplies, furniture looked like it was bought in a yard sale and the windows were very hard to open because they were as old as the property, built sometime in the 1930's or 1940's. Some windows didn't even open up at all which I can't believe could pass the local Fire Code. Refrigerator in the kitchen was old enough to have a large rust stain on the front and the toilet in the bathroom didn't flush properly because it looked like the flapper hadn't been changed in 25 years. On top of all this when we woke after the first night there we were met by a lot of ants in the sink and on top of the counters as well as in the sink in the bathroom. If you are a college kid renting this property and are used to living in a very old building at school that has been minimally maintained and you are ok with ants, than this is for you. We left after one day and have been stonewalled by the management over a refund, even after reading a review about the ants before renting and being assured by management that we wouldn't have that problem. The one positive thing that I can say is that it is in a good location but you would be better off in a tent.

Fabulous Location

Basic comfortable apartment on a cute quiet street just a short walk to the ocean. Street parking was easy. We had no issues with the automatic exterior light previous guests mentioned. The bed was very comfortable. There were some ants in the kitchen but the manager responded quickly with the location of traps and spray.

Charming Old La Jolla Beach Cottage

The cottage was great, perfect location, short walk to the beach, super clean, everything works, lovely setting, the best shower. Feels like 1930's beach house but with all the modern convieniences. Can't wait to come back!

The location and cleanliness was good. misrepresented power outage

There was a planned city power outage that was not communicated to us at the time of booking. My husband needs a breathing machine to sleep so we both didn’t sleep Friday night and were exhausted Saturday. Also they said the power would come on at 7 am Sat and it didn’t come on till 10 am. If the planned power outage had been posted we would have stayed in Dwl Mar or another city. Also there were ants and the outside furnitue was old ans dicrepide

Perfect Little Cottage

This was a darling little house. I rented it for myself and my two daughters. The home was small but nicely appointed and very comfortable. It’s just a short walk to Windansea Beach and a short walk to coffee shops and restaurants. I would stay there again!

La Jolla trip

We enjoyed our trip. Turns out we didn’t need the heat,fridge and microwave because none them worked. We knew ahead time that there wasn’t air conditioning. We arrived around 3 pm and the house was a little chilly ie 60 degrees Raised the thermostat but it did not turn on. Checked the fridge and it had no power as well as microwave. Both plugged into same outlet. We left to go checkout the area Came back later in the evening called the emergency number and someone texted us back I explained the situation. They had me try a different outlet for the microwave and it worked so I told the person it must be the outlet. The next morning I took bottom of wall furnace off and seen pilot light not in. Tried lighting but it had zero gas flow. Left another message and this person said yes the furnace does not work the owner is working on getting a replacement. They had a very small electric space heater there to use which I said we don’t feel comfortable sleeping at night with a space heater. We made due with blankets. We also were supposed to have access to the garage but it had a padlock on it Luckily there was enough street parking. But we didn’t even have access to the trash cans. The house is very nice and neighborhood is close to everything. The owners/ managing company not very responsive to deficiencies if everything was as stated in the description we would definitely go back

Lovely cottage close to the beach

A very cozy cottage close to the beach. For those of you wanting to cook, this cottage does not have the basic spices, olive oil, salt and pepper or starter coffee like many homes I have rented. If these were added, it would be a huge bonus! Also, the automatic flood lights from the neighbor should be addressed with black out blinds. The light was so intense it flooded the bedroom at 2 a.m. Not thrilled about that! Something to consider! All in all, a great place to stay with some attention to these details.

Stellar Location

Beautiful spot, easy walk to beach, newly updated. However, oven did not work (we brought lots of food to cook so that was a disappointment, no response from property manager regarding this issue). Tub does not drain properly, and again no response from property manager. There were no coffee filters provided, so remember to pack some. Property manager suggested I use some left by previous tenants, but per neighbor we were first renters since place became a vrbo. Also, bring a sleep mask! There are some motion sensor lights in the courtyard that illuminate the bedroom when they turn on.
