How to maximize a wellness getaway

On a recent trip to one of our favorite destinations–lush, verdant Costa Rica–we had recharging on our minds. Costa Rica, like many other destinations, is an ideal choice for a relaxing, rejuvenating getaway.

A perfect wellness retreat starts with selecting a locale that has the hallmarks of wellness imbued right into its culture. Just as Hawaii offers visitors the “spirit of aloha,” Costa Rica is well known for its “pura vida” way of life. Literally translated, pura vida means “pure life”. Really, though, the phrase is used to communicate “all is good.”

Given that, Costa Rica served an ideal place for us to determine the seven key components of a wellness getaway.

CR - Relaxing

Ample time by the pool–long periods of snoozing and reading interspersed with dips in the cool water–tops our list.

CR - Letting Loose

A memorable wellness getaway should not be an exercise in austerity. Even when we are focusing on nutrition and fitness, we always make room for some indulgences.

CR - Reflecting

A wellness retreat is a perfect time to reflect on life and find clarity. We like to use wellness retreats as opportunities to ponder (and often figure out) big questions we are facing.

CR - Doing Nothing

One of the most important thing to do on a wellness getaway is nothing. We like to take plenty of time to get away from technology and simply disconnect.

CR - Connecting With Nature

Few things provide the perspective and clarity that nature can offer. Immersing yourself in the outdoors is key to a remarkable wellness retreat.

CR - Treating Yourself

We find that beautiful surroundings are crucial, whether a minimalist eco-retreat or well-appointed luxury suite, it is important to feel comfortable and at ease in your surroundings.

What do you think is critical component of a perfect wellness getaway?
