Description

Get an up-close look at the life and traditions of the modern Maya by venturing to Santiago and Panajachel. Take a boat tour on Lake Atitlán to soak in some spectacular views featuring the Toliman, San Pedro, and Atitlán volcanoes.

Your tour will begin with a pick up at your hotel in Guatemala City by our local guide and transfer to Panajachel sometimes your transfer will be via Antigua Guatemala.

We will go to the west of the country where most of the indigenous villages of Guatemala are concentrated.

Upon arrival to Panajachel we will take a public boat to cross Lake Atitlan and visit Santiago Atitlán, where you’ll learn of the local Saint “Maximon” he is a nahual of the tz'utujiles of Santiago Atitlán, and is venerated as the “guardian protector” of the Tz'utujil people given his status as a colonized people. Popular tradition refers that this character is a tree of “palo de pito” or “tz'atel”, a common tree in the regions of Mesoamerica, who in mythological times was also proposed as guardian protector of the people.

In Santiago, encounter the traditions and lifestyle of the Tz'utujil Maya, admire the typical woven huipils worn by the local women, and enjoy the peaceful and friendly ambiance. A wide variety of colorful local handicrafts and arts is also on display along the town’s streets. Continue to Panajachel, on the shore of Lake Atitlán, to explore this idyllic village and have time to grab lunch on your own.

In Panajachel you will take a delicious lunch (NOT INCLUDED)

Explore the village of Panajachel is a pre-Columbian town of Kakchiquel origin, settled next to the river with the same name and on the lakeside of Atitlán.

At the end of your lunch , you’ll be returned to Guatemala City via Antigua Guatemala
