Description

Dive into a virtual ocean where high tech meets the deep sea. National Geographic Encounter is a new, interactive entertainment attraction in Times Square that journeys through the Pacific Ocean over one incredible night, where guests see, hear and feel what it’s like to be under the sea and encounter its greatest wonders.

You’ll hear breathtaking stories from National Geographic photographers and explorers, take on gaming challenges, and become a true champion for our oceans every day.

Only in New York City can visitors escape the jaws of a 50-foot humpback whale, laugh through a kelp forest maze, play with mischievous sea lions, and encounter a luminous coral reef, sharks, dolphins, and a battle between vicious squid – all without getting wet.

Know Before You Book

  • Purchasing an admission voucher through Expedia gives you the flexibility to exchange your voucher for a ticket upon arrival for the next available entry time. Or anytime between purchasing your voucher and visiting, you can reserve your entry day and time through Online Checkin.

  • There are no live animals in Encounter. Instead, we use digital technology to enable you to get an up-close look at some of the ocean’s most interesting creatures at true-to-life-sizes and with exact scientific details. Instead of taking animals out of their homes, we welcome you to theirs.

  • Most guests take about 60-90 minutes to experience Encounter. Last entry time is one hour before closing.

  • The recommended age for the experience is 3 years and older. Children ages 2 and under do not require a ticket to enter.

  • The experience is accessible to individuals with disabilities. We have a limited number of complimentary wheelchairs available. Encounter is an immersive, interactive cinematic experience and at times includes loud sound effects and large imagery which may be challenging for some.

  • Strollers are not permitted within the experience. Should you need to bring a stroller with you, you will be required to check it at our coat check desk. Please note that stroller storage space is limited.

Maybe it was our fault, however, we thought this would be a virtual reality experience. It was like a medium Disney ride. Would not do it or recommend to anyone. Sorry.

It is really interactive and feels like you are in the Ocean. Nothing like that seen before. A little pricey.
