Description

Explore Rarotonga's artistic heritage and traditional handicrafts with a private guide. Visit the studios of Cook Island artists, learn about the techniques used in carving pearls, sample liqueurs made from tropical products, and enjoy a delicious lunch at a locally loved cafe.

Your guide picks you up at your hotel for the short drive to Koteka Winery, which specializes in liqueurs made from tropical fruits. Sample banana-based libations, chili-infused beverages, and flavorful vanilla extracts before continuing on to the Matutu Brewing Company to see where the favorite local beer is produced.

Visit Rito, a family-run business that produces organic cosmetics with cold-pressed coconut oil, and see where traditional island items like ukuleles, ei (flower crowns), and wrapped pareu skirts are crafted. Stop off at Kay George's gallery to see hand-painted fabrics and canvases, and discover the quilting technique of tivaevae at the store of Madam Anne.

Browse for fragrant souvenirs at Perfumes of Rarotonga, where you can shop for natural soaps, and at the Beachcomber, a colonial building with a retail shop that sells contemporary art, peals, and contemporary island apparel. Meet Tokerau Jim, who specializes in carving black pearls, before heading to the Mooring Fish Cafe for a tasty lunch of fish caught fresh by Captain Moko and prepared by his friendly wife.
