What you can expect
Drift peacefully along the sparkling waters of Lake Wakatipu aboard a catamaran purpose built for viewing, and then explore the area between Mt Nicholas and Walter Peak during a self-guided bike tour. A visit and insight into one of New Zealand's largest working farms, unrivaled photo opportunities, and delicious lunch certainly make this a trip to remember.
Head to St. Omer Wharf and collect your bicycle and helmet before stepping aboard a modern and spacious catamaran. As you drift out onto Lake Wakatipu, take in views of its shimmering water and mountains in the distance, including the Southern Alps and the Remarkables mountain range. Cruise past Bob's Cove and get a look at some of the area's endemic flora and fauna.
Disembark the boat and meet a friendly sheep farmer who takes you on a guided tour of a working merino farm. See the animals up close and learn about a variety of farming techniques used to harvest wool that's then sold to a major clothing manufacturer. Next, hop into a 4-wheel-drive vehicle for some off-the-beaten-track exploration of the area, followed by a traditional ploughman's lunch with fresh breads and cheeses.
Finally, enjoy the opportunity to cycle at your own pace across miles of stunning landscape and open farm land toward Walter Peak. The terrain is easy and offers panoramic alpine views all the way to the Colonel's Homestead at Walter Peak, where refreshments are available. Finally, board the vintage steamship TSS Earnslaw for the return cruise to Queenstown.
