Description

Take a walking tour of Palermo, a true gem of Sicily's northern coast, and get a sense of the town's rich heritage and striking baroque architecture. Learn the ways of life enjoyed by the aristocracy of centuries past, and immerse yourself in a vibrant and sometimes dark history.

Meet your guide at Piazza Vigliena “Quattro Canti” and begin a walking tour that starts with a visit to Palazzo Mirto, a historic residence that showcases magnificent furniture and treasures. Walk along narrow streets filled with artisan shops, past a location where judges condemned many to death during the Inquisition Court.

Admire the Palazzo Valguarnera Gangi, the location of Luchino Visconti's famous film The Leopard, and see a square decorated with the beautiful Gothic rose window of the church Saint Francis of Assisi. Hear stories of the richest and darkest centuries of Spanish Sicily while visiting the Oratory of San Lorenzo.

Stand in the shade of an ancient Ficus macrophylla tree in Marina Square, on the footstep of the Holy Inquisition before ending your tour near the Old Port of La Cala, where you can find lots of delicious gelato and cannoli nearby.

It would be useful to have the exact details of the person guiding as we were given the wrong place to meet and had to do some phoning around to sort it out. Other than that very satisfactory walking tour.
