Get a firsthand look at more than 1,000 years of British royal history with a visit to the storied castle grounds at the Tower of London. Marvel at the glittering Crown Jewels and coronation regalia of monarchs past, and roam the ramparts with the famous Beefeaters who still protect the tower.

Make your way to the banks of the Thames and cross the now-dry moat to enter the ominous gates of the Tower of London. A prison, a zoo, an arsenal, and a mint at various times throughout history, the many faces of the Tower of London can be seen in the varied architectural styles on display on the grounds—from half-timbered residences along the Tower Green to the stony heights of the White Tower.

Explore the turrets, keep, and armory on your own, or join in on a Yeoman Warder tour for the ultimate Tower of London experience. Hear the story behind national treasures like King Henry VIII's suits of armor and the crowns and garments of kings and royals from centuries past. Tread in the footsteps of Ann Boleyn as you stand on the site where 3 ill-fated queens met their end, and be swept into Tudor times as you listen to real-life tales of pain, passion, and punishment.

Tower of London Admission - The Great Crown Jewel Robbery at the Tower of London

Duration 1d No booking or credit card fees

In 1671, the crown jewels, held in the Tower of London for safekeeping, became the target of the most audacious rouge, Colonel Blood and his gang of villains. From the 6-22 April, the Tower of London will be re-enacting this event daily at 11.30, 13.00 and 15.30.

Good vs not so good. Visitors can decide to try their luck and join the cunning plan, or attempt to stop the plot. Depending what side they choose, there will be opportunities to make a crown fit for a King or Queen. Alternatively, wanted posters for the most heinous of criminals can be made and visitors can step back in time as they dress up as Colonel Blood. Objects relating to Colonel Blood and the Crown Jewels will also be on display for visitors to handle.

Daily at 12.00, 13.30 and 16.00, figures from the time of the event, Charles II and his mistress, Nell Gwynne, will be teaching visitors how to have a good time at court, leading dances, and will be rewarding families who have completed all of the activities.

From 23-28 April, visitors will also be able to enjoy music from the Restoration period whilst watching the Merry Monarch, Charles II, and his mistress dance.

We had a great day with our grandchildren, everyone enjoyed the experience, small warning to some, there are lots of stairs to climb to see many of the areas and the cobbles are a little tricky in parts! Wear sensible shoes/trainers! Which I didn’t!

We really enjoyed walking through the Tower and viewing the crown jewels. Depending on the time of year, they close around 5:30PM so you will want to enter the Tower of London a couple of hours before closing time. If you pre-buy your ticket on line and need to go to the meeting point, you need to walk along the walk way right to the end.

An excellent way to see one of the must see destinations in London, especially if you only have a few days. Pre-purchasing your tickets allows you to skip the long lines to purchase tickets on-site, although you still have to exchange your vouchers for tickets at the much shorter group ticket line. Make sure you vote on one of the tours lead by a Beefeater as you will get so much more of the history of this amazing place. Going earlier in the morning helps to avoid the large crowds of people visiting this site especially on weekends and holidays. Lots of places to eat on-site. Be prepared to spend at least three hours there in order to take in everything.
