Description

Learn all about Argentina's signature fileteado painting style on this street art tour. Stroll down avenues that feature buildings and walls covered in fileteado murals, and then head to the eclectic San Telmo neighborhood to participate in a fileteado class at the famous Miguel Angel Workshop.

Meet your guide at the impressive Abasto Shopping Mall, which was founded as a traditional agricultural market, and then set off down neighborhood streets for a look at how fileteado art pervades every corner of Buenos Aires. From its humble origins as a way for Italian immigrants to stylishly adorn delivery vehicles to its modern day designation as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, fileteado helped shape and revolutionize the 20th century in Buenos Aires. This uniquely Argentine art form is created with long-threaded brushes and features stylized lines and flowered climbing plants.

Your next stop is at the Carlos Gardel Museum, which honors the songwriter, composer, and actor who is considered by many to be the most influential figure in the history of tango. Then, venture over to the San Telmo neighborhood, where you take a fileteado class at the Miguel Angel Workshop. Create your own fileteado art with helpful tips from a master, and then take your work home as a memento of your experience. Your journey ends with a satisfying Argentine afternoon snack called merienda.
