Description

Grab a flashlight and explore Portland's seedy distant, and not so distant past, exposing the Rose City's worst with lots of crimes, corruption, scandals, and tons of colorful, if controversial characters. Led by our fun team of Resident Experts (aka “guides), you will discover the real story behind Portland's legendary Shanghai Tunnels.

The striking gates of Old Town Chinatown with its iconic red streetlamps, our picturesque waterfront park, the famous White Stag sign and the infamous Voodoo Donuts all serve as the backdrop for this fun entertaining tour. Affectionately called by our staff “The Worst of Portland,” this tour mostly takes place street side as we delve into the vibrant underground culture and history as we explore some of the best-kept secrets, legends and famous events that shaped this unique city. We will conclude the tour subterranean beneath the historic Merchant Hotel and it's legendary Shanghai Tunnels where we'll entertain you with tales from some of Portland's more famous crimps and give you the real story behind the tunnels and the fate of those poor shanghaiied sailors

The tour takes about 2 hours. Guests should dress for the weather and expect to walk a little over a mile. We loosely label this tour a “PG-13” tour as some of the topics covered may not be appropriate for young children since we will cover topics such as prostitution, racism, gambling, corruption, and more.

It was a cool tour. The underground part is more athe size of a basement in a building that does not go anywhere. I was expecting to go through some tunnels. Other than that, it was a cool tour.

Overall a good general tour, and the guide was good, but the underground element is five minutes in the basement.
