The location of this hotel is amazing given the price, right on the old Arbat and only a 15 minute walk from Red Square. The room we had was small, but there are communal rooms too - including a kitchen where you can make tea and coffee for free. The decor was really good - loved the little black cats on the walls! - and the hotel has certainly made the most of the small space it has. Finding it can be hard - its round the back through the courtyard - keep going until you think you can't possibly go any more!

I arrived at night to this hostel and it wasn't a pleasant experience. It is located in an alley and the hotel itself is on the fourth floor, which you can only reach using the stairs in a very shady environment. The lobby and the area of the hotel is not like in the pictures, but the rooms and the decoration of the hotel is nice. The next day I found out that the location of it wasn't that bad and it's close to the cathedral and the red square, if you don't mind walking about 15 to 20 mins. Everything was clean and the environment was OK, I didn't felt that it was a friendly environment. Not bad, just ok.
The hotel is hard to find, even to the taxi drivers. It is located in what used to be a chocolate factory and it's now a part of several buildings that are kind of artsy. There are bars and galleries nearby.

Very good experience when compared to typical Russian hotels. Of course staff has the usual Russian lack of smiles or friendliness but, don't forget, you are in Russia. Two rooms use one bathroom, but there were not many people staying in the hotel, so the bathroom was all ours. I think that’s typical. Room was clean, nothing stolen from room after room service. Easy 10 minute walk to Metro. The most impressive part, to me, was the quality of the breakfast buffet that came with each morning. It was good, with a wide variety of Russian foods that prevented boredom and food was replaced before it ran out. They even changed it up from day to day. I was expecting a bad experience for how little I paid, but ended up very satisfied. Would recommend. In fact, I probably will stay again.

I arrived at 23:30 and they could not speak english! Luckily I found another tourist who was passing by and he could speak both english and russian so he spoke to the lady on my behalf. Otherwise I would had stayed outside! In my opinion if someone is advertising an hotel on expedia.co.uk they should certainly speak english.
My room was in horrible conditions, the toilet was leaking and it was very difficult to sleep with that dripping noise all night long. There was no toilet paper (and I didn't know how to ask in russian! ) So I had to buy my own toilet paper.
5 days and no one came to clean the room.
