Russia is the world's largest country and has a long history filled with warriors, revolutions, and exploration. Travelers staying in Russia hotels should plan to devote plenty of time to exploring the rich culture and history of this vast area of the world.

The Russian Federation, as it is officially known, is comprised of many smaller areas with ranging levels of autonomy. Each area has its own culture and history, but enjoys commonalities including language and federal government.

The country spans nine time zones and has diverse climates and geography. Guests looking for Russia hotel deals on Expedia might desire to find rooms in areas to the north to see the region's distinguished taiga, or boreal forest, and to the south to see the country's famous steppes. Caucasus' tallest peak, Mount Elbrus, is located in the south. The extensive Russian coastline includes the Arctic and Pacific oceans, which offer some of the best opportunities for viewing sea life such as whales.

Russia is well known for its influence in science, music, and literature. Visitors taking advantage of cheap hotel deals in Russia in the major cities of Moscow and St. Petersburg should include time to stop at the nation's top museums devoted to the country's most famous citizens.

Some favorite tourist destinations in Russia include the Tretyakov Gallery, Hermitage Museums, Saint Basil's Cathedral, Moscow's Kremlin, and the classical architecture of the buildings in older areas of St. Petersburg. When visiting Russia, a classic souvenir to bring home could be a set of matryoshka dolls.

Hotels in Russia offer concierge services to help visitors book discount visits to popular destinations such as the Bolshoi Ballet or to games of the Kontinental Hockey League. Prices for Russia hotel packages may include amenities such as Internet access and shuttle service to local landmarks for travelers to enjoy. Dining in Russia includes delicacies such as Russian caviar and world-famous Russian vodka.

Those who want to spend time in Russia would do well to make reservations in advance of any special events such as the Orthodox Christmas, Victory Day, and Defender of the Fatherland Day. To get a cheap Russia hotel deal for these national holidays, be flexible with arrival and departure times to get the best rates. Discounts on accommodations are easier to find on Expedia during the cold winter months outside of the holiday season.

"Very Nice Hotel next to Sennaya Square"
Nice Friendly staff and nice overall experience. This is my second stay at this hotel in the past year and it meets the basic needs in a clean environment. Sennaya square is very close, a 7 minute walk. St. Isaac's Cathedral is 10 minute walk. Nevskiy Prospect (Avenue) is 25 minute walk. Hermitage is 30 minute walk. Staff all speak English with the exception of the cleaning staff. They are helpful when asked. Check out is easy. This is not a 5 star hotel, but for the money, it is an excellent value if you are willing to stay off of Nevskiy Prospect.....

    "Quirky but welcoming"
They take their support of art seriously and have built a warm and welcoming hotel. Yes, it's a bit quirky (internal stairwell, bold decoration, double electronic security doors). But, the staff were welcoming and accommodating, the room was clean, and the location is great for metro/top sights/dining & drinking. I liked the history of the place and enjoyed the decor. Very happy with my stay.

From the moment we arrived the staff were taking care of us. The hotel has a navigator who helped us to book tickets and advised us on the transport. St Petersburg is a lovely city and this hotel is ideally located to explore it.

    "Great hotel close to Kremlin"
The Metropol is a centrally located hotel, roughly 2 blocks away from the Kremlin and Red Square. It is an older hotel -- with somewhat of a grand feeling to it. The huge strength of this hotel is its concierge staff. Americans in Moscow can have huge problems with the language, transportation, knowing where to go. This hotel's concierge staff were endlessly patient and helpful to myself and my wife. The room was large, clean, and quite reasonable. With larger fluffier towels, would be up there with the 4 star operations. It was a little cold, which we were told was the fault of the government. I would have preferred a coffee pot in the room, rather than being forced to forage for coffee in the morning. Still, even considering these small negatives, we would certainly return to this hotel were we in Moscow again.

"Great little hotel, a little far from attractions"
This is a great little hotel, but a little far from the Kremlin and the Red Square, - it's a little up the road from Bolshoi theatre. However has all the facilities required for a comfortable stay. Peter I is appointed a 5 star hotel, probably a little overrated, maybe a 4 star, as if you were to compare to other 5 star hotels in Moscow (such as Hotel National, Four Season and Ritz Carlton) it doesn't really live up the 5 star hotel standards in Moscow. The rooms are big but the bathrooms small, the breakfast is sufficient but just that little bit short on taste. Staff are friendly enough.
