Quito, the capital of Ecuador, is situated 40 miles (64 kilometers) southwest of Cotacachi.
Don't restrict yourself to Cotacachi; Imbabura has been blessed with a treasure trove man-made and natural attractions waiting to be explored. Head 10 miles (16 kilometers) southwest to Ibarra, where you can check out the La Merced Park and Basilica La Dolorosa.
Quito, is another good spot to explore. It is about 40 miles (64 kilometers) from Cotacachi and offers a wide range of tourist attractions, like Mitad del Mundo Monument, City Museum and Cotocachi National Park. Ensure you don't rush back to Cotacachi until you've checked out Quito's Botanical Garden of Quito, Ecuadorian Cultural House and Guanquiltaqua Metropolitan Park.
Nothing unlocks understanding in this wonderfully diverse world quite like language, so learn some useful Spanish phrases before you leave. "¿Querría bailar conmigo?" is the Spanish way to say "Would you like to dance with me?" And, for "This gentleman will pay for everything", you can use "Este caballero pagará por todo" Don't be shy, just give it a go!
