“Perfect Hotel”
This non-chain, boutique hotel is more like you would find in any European city. Located on the 2nd and 3rd floors of a building, walking up the stairs to check-in is definitely different. Staff was very friendly; shared their knowledge of the restaurants within walking distance (lots of them), and took pictures of our group for us. The rooms are on the small size but perfect. The recent renovation was a success! Crisp and clean bedding and linens, upscale amenities, free wifi, etc. Check-in and out was easy. Parking was free. Nice area. We were comfortable walking around the area in the late evening. Definitely will stay here again!
“Not for families”
We were on a long trip with a small child and had lots of bags. there is a huge flight of stairs into the hotel entrance, with no elevator and no one to help with the bags. there is a jazz bar directly under the hotel so there's loud music in the rooms until they close (after midnight on weekend). Air conditioning didn't work all that well and the room was a bit small. rooms were clean and well furnished, and location on brand is convenient, so if you're traveling light and plan to be in the jazz bar, this hotel could work for you.
“Mixed review”
I always enjoy staying in restored building. However, there are, I am sorry to say, more minuses than pluses here. First of all - the first floor is one level above street level, so the second level is actually third level and I had a heavy suitcase and there is no elevator. I am still spry enough to manage it but beware. The lobby and hallways were not quite as restored as the room was, it definitely had a smell of "old". The room was clean and nicely appointed but the shower was a disaster. The bathroom was brand new but the shower is directly over head and it flowed willy nilly. I felt like I was going to drown and the water created a lake in the bathroom floor because no matter what I did with the sower curtain, the spray was so wild that it flooded. Parking is in a structure an alley behind and there are more stairs as you must park on the second level. I can not recommend it but I have to give them some credit or trying to restore an old building in a wonderful part of town.
“The Brandwood: It stunk. Literally.”
Accommodations at the Brandwood were spectacular from beginning to end. Upon arrival, we were amazed by the immense-ness of our hotel room. Granted the room was only 200 sq feet but since we are midgets the room fit us perfectly. The Brandwood spares no expense from its rotten-foot-scented room freshener to the cigarette smoke aroma therapy that wafts under the door at night. Prepare to be lulled to sleep by the sounds of local freight trains passing by throughout the night. Although the hotel's location leaves a bit to be desired, with drones of homeless walking along the streets at night, the Brandwood, with its genuine concern for its guests' safety provides free security lighting in your room via fluorescent street lights shining through the window. In all seriousness this was probably one step above a Motel 6 for three times the price. With the exception of its close proximity to Portos this hotel offers nothing to justify the cost.
“Hidden Gem”
It takes a bit to pick it out, but the Brandwood is one of the most comfortable hotels in which i've stayed. Nice quiet rooms, big fluffy beds, and easy access to all of LA (to say nothing of Glendale, which also has its charms). We'll definitely return to the Brandwood!
“Excellent place!”
This was a wonderful hotel only steps away from a great restaurant (Jax, on the first floor) and a short walk from LOTS of shopping. As a stepping stone to greater LA, it has easy access to major highways. The beds were comfy, the rooms were clean and cozy, and the staff was excellent. There was only one tiny disappointment: no closets in which to hang long dresses! There are also stairs at this hotel. Very tall, steep stairs. This is not necessarily a bad thing! ;-)
“Can't wait to go back”
The hotel is so nice and clean, it's in the center of the city, very convenient to go all the places.
“Nice little hotel”
The Brandwood is very clean! You do have to walk up stairs but that was not a problem for us. The second door at the back entrance would stick after entering the code and there is an immediate step up once the door is opened. The first time I went in this way I tripped. Other than that, I thought this was a very unique little hotel. It was very quiet and private. The bar downstairs had a great atmosphere and excellent service.
“Consistently Excellent!”
This was my 2nd stay at the Brandwood. I will go back to it again and again when I need a place to stay in the LA area! It is perfect for the active traveler who only needs a comfortable, clean place to sleep at a safe, convenient location (and doesn't need a large room with a view to hang out in all day). It was perfect for my needs. It is close proximity to everything I needed to get to. Plus there is so much to do within walking distance. The bed is comfortable, the shower is hot, the room is super clean, the coffee in the room is good, and the staff is friendly and helpful.
“Small clean hotel”
The hotel was clean but smaller than expected. It really is in a beautiful area with many things to do.
