The shower in the original room we booked was inside the bedroom which we knew at the time of booking. Unfortunately, the wooden separator, which was supposed to provide some privacy, as well as the curtains were broken so we'd have no privacy while taking a shower if we had to stay in that room. The furniture in the room was very old. There was a cable and screw attached to it laying on the ground. The staff was nice and after some back and forth and showing them a video we took, the owner eventually accommodated our request to change rooms at no additional cost. The new room was much nicer, but the heat didn't work and A/C would only blow cold air. The bathroom door is a sliding barn door without a lock and with a large gap when closed. There is not much privacy to say the least. Paid parking ($31) is behind the building by the garbage bins. I would recommend street parking instead. I don't recommend this hotel in its current condition.

I booked Hotel Ambrose for 1 night, but I didn't end up staying there because my flight was delayed. However, I gave them a high rating since the communication with them was very good and they were quite friendly. I was looking forward to staying there, so hopefully the next time I'm in Montreal I'll be able to stay.

I was in 321 which seemed to be as close to the construction site as possible and during my two nights there it was never overtly problematic. Construction never went into the evening hours and typically started around eight or so. The work was sporadic, not overly jarring and the provided ear protection helped block the noise. I’m a light sleeper and managed to still sleep in both days I was there. The staff were fantastic, and very much seem to practice reactive customer service rather than the plastic active customer service found with chains. I very much appreciated their work and help during my stay. The location for a visit to the arts centres of Montreal was fantastic. I really enjoyed the area, so much to offer in terms of food, shopping or entertainment. Great place to be situated for a first visit to the city. Lots of culture within a 20 minute walk from the hotel. The room was well situated. Had blackout and privacy curtains. The room was a little cold, but the heat/air condition combo unit helped get the temperatures where they were comfortable. Noise from other guests was minimal. The bathroom outstanding, the tub was large enough for me as a six foot tall person to soak in it and the provided soaps were great and ethical as well as eco friendly. Fantastic place, very excited at the possibility of returning soon.

The staff was the most outstanding aspect of this hotel. They were very professional, understanding, efficient, friendly and went above and beyond what was required of them. The downtown location was fantastic and the room very comfortable and quiet at night. Having the gorgeous cafe in the foyer was a huge bonus also. A few more steps than I expected. However, staff were extremely helpful with carrying luggage and then storing it. If visiting Montreal again, I would certainly stay at Hotel Ambrose.

Property is run down. Bed and pillows were clean & comfortable and staff very nice. Those are probably the only good things about this place. However, to be fair, it's comparably cheap, so if you only need a clean bed (late arrival, early check out), you could do worse.

Very well located. Stylish old building. Large rooms. It is in fact a 3 stars. Bathrooms would need renovation and painting. Good for one night if you want to be at walking distance from McGill zone and to pay a little less.

Great for a weekend
This is a cute little boutique-style hotel that makes you forget you are in the middle of downtown. The coffee shop (which is also the lobby) downstairs is very convenient. Service was friendly and efficient. Location can't be beat, right next to McGill and a few blocks from the metro. That said, this place isn't for everyone or every type of trip. I could hear people coming up/down the stairs at night. It is an old converted house, so I would expect that. They also mentioned construction but I was there on a weekend so I didn't hear it. A lot of the reviews mention narrow stairs, so maybe not for you if you have heavy luggage or can't walk up one or two flights. Overall I would definitely recommend staying here for a short solo or couples trip. For me, the location, service, and ambience definitely win out.

Very friendly and helpful staff at this small hotel, great location for walking to Mont Royal and to restaurants nearby. Construction in a neighboring building was a bit irritating at times, but the hotel provided free earplugs - which was a nice thought. Simple but good food options for a quick snack or a small meal. Although the front desk closes at 11pm, we were able to arrange to check in late, and the staff member who came down to help us was very friendly and kind. I would definitely stay here again if I made it to Montreal again.
