The Mount Lofty Botanic Garden is a stunning set of grounds in the leafy rolling terrain wrapping around the edge of Adelaide. Tropical forests and intriguing modern works of art decorate the nature trails that meander through these vast gardens. Visit Mount Lofty Botanic Garden at different times of year to see the changing faces and colors of nature.
Go on a leisurely trip along the nature paths in the park, studying some of the native Australian plants, such as tree ferns, in the Adelaide Hills. Spot some of the intriguing vegetation from cooler climates, including magnolias and rhododendrons. Make your way up and down the hills and pass through the shaded area of Fern Gully.
Come in spring to see the camellias and other flowers in full bloom. See how the leaves of the trees display a great range of colors in autumn. A romantic mist often takes hold in winter.
The Nature Trail is a window into the past, with a range of plants that would have covered the continent before European settlement. Follow the long-distance Heysen Trail and enjoy a walk along the water on the Lakeside Trail as you view plant-themed works of art.
Bring your binoculars to spot birds and climb to one of the viewing points for stunning vistas across the Adelaide Hills.
The garden opens daily from morning until late afternoon. It occasionally closes in instances of increased levels of forest fire danger. Admission is free but there is a fee for parking, except on Sundays and holidays.
