Irresponsible management in an otherwise beautiful Inn

Posted Oct 18, 2011
We were impressed by the 9000 sq ft.,house The staff greeted us at the reception area by name and gave us our room key. After walking up the grand staircase (slugging our luggage as there was no help offered), we entered our room. A huge 4 poster bed swathed in linens and 2 chandeliers greeted us as well as period antiques. A huge bay window with stained glass provided a great view. We enjoyed the first night of a three night stay, then we received a phone call at 10 am by the staff stating we had been given the wrong room key and that we had to move. The story I was given was the guest who had booked our room had done so months in advance and was paying more money for the room, so we were required to move next door to an equally beautiful but much smaller room. We were not given any acknowledgement of our inconvenience or embarrassment of having to slug everything next door at 11am, other than "sorry", and for this reason I was no longer happy with our host. VERY unprofessional. I must deservedly note that the inns housekeeper was wonderful, apologising and offering help to move our things, to provide extra water and towels, etc. for the balance of our stay, but a manager, or the Innkeeper him/herself, should have handled the situation, and not leave it up to the housekeeper. An unfortunate mar on an otherwise wonderful stay in the Thorold area. Lots of history, and things to see. I recommend Morningstar Mills for hiking, and Johnny Rocco's for a great Italian meal!
