Convenient & clean. Not bad for the price.

Highland Gardens Hotel is a nice motel. I felt safe and they tried to make it as clean and comfortable as possible. The lobby is chique but the rooms are shabby. It is just an old building and they have done their best to keep it clean and inviting. We were only there to sleep so we didn’t get to check out the pool and other amenities. We also didn’t have a chance to check out room 105 which is where Janis Joplin died. It was worth the price if you’re in Hollywood.

False Advertising

The lobby is gorgeous, newly decorated but they seemed to have stopped there. The showers are disgusting with mildew everywhere. The rooms are only half re-modeled. Disgusting, dont stay here.

Nice hotel

Good: Hotel was older but nicely furnished & decorated. I stayed in an executive suite, and it was quite spacious, and to my pleasant surprise the kitchenette was stocked with dishes & cookware. The air conditioner worked great! The staff was friendly & very helpful. The pool area is lovely. Bad: soaps were too small; no lotion included; the maid did not clean up dirty dishes.

Beautiful setting

Our first time to Hollywood, CA and really enjoyed the stay here. It has a beautiful reception area and backdoor area near the pool. We were on the 2nd floor and our balcony was a good size with beautiful view of the trees and flowers in the garden area. It was 2 blocks walk from Hollywood Blvd and we walked there every night holding a baby. Desk staff was very friendly and helpful with area attractions. Room had dining area with fridge and stove, vanity area separate from bathroom. The shower head was very low. The garage always had room to park and was secured.

If traveling and planning to walk Hollywood Blvd with a child, bring a stroller. Alot of walking to do. Must visit the 99cent store on La Brea. Was amazed at the variety of things so inexpensive.

Needs work

It may look nice from the lobby, but this place needs work. It is actually an office/ apartment complex. The grounds are not that atrractive at all. Our room was on the first floor and the beds were squeaky and the bathroom shower was a mess. It was clean and had adequate space, but if you want a place to sleep and eat stay here.

Traveler's tip on shopping

The farmers market is a waste. You have to pay to park even thought it says its free.

A Little TLC

A little TLC (proper painting and caulking of bathroom and fixtures) would go a long way in making this hotel more comfortable. I also never understood the small (tiny) soap thing. For the price I paid for the room, a decent size bar of soap would have been nice. For one night, it was fine.

Good location, comfortable and

The room we had was recently remodeled so it was clean and comfortable. The suite we got was the size of a small 1 bedroom apartment. Great location, underground parking and nice staff. They also had free internet in the room so that was a nice bonus.

Traveler's tip on nightlife

For the small amount it’s worth getting the suite.

will return without hesitation

Highland Gardens was a centrally-located hotel only about a couple of blocks from Hollywood and Highland/ Grauman’s Chinese Theater... Renovated room was clean, and also had a great kitchenette-stove, refrigerator, etc... good swimming pool and garden--staff friendly and helpful

would probably go back

I was satisfied with the reception. Everybody was nice and receptive to my need. If you live in a house and are not used to noise above you, then I would sugest that you ask to be on the second floor because the walls and ceilings are very thin. The Hotel is well situated; just one easy block from Hollywood Blvd. where I spent a lot of time at the Hollywood Highland Shoping Center. You can save a lot of money taking the Metro which is easy to learn if you want to go to far away places, because the taxis are very expensive.

Traveler's tip on dining

There are plenty of restaurants from cheap to expensive at the Hollywood Highland Shoping Center.

Good inexpensive hotel

I stayed at the Highland Gardens for 6 days during my vacation. The hotel was just fine. The room was clean, the front desk helped with anything, and for being on a main street, the hotel was relatively quiet. The parking lot wasn’t full any of the nights which is a big plus as other hotels I’ve stayed in have filled up, forcing me to park elsewhere. The only problem I had was that the shower was a bit small and had a low nozzle...not a really big deal.

Not Great

The hotel was really not acceptable. I wouldn’t stay here even if you’re looking for location and just "a place to sleep." It really was disgusting and poorly kept.

Outstanding

I booked two rooms weeks in advance for one night. This hotel provided what I was looking for. Two short blocks from Hollywood Blvd, clean, heated pool. I wasn’t looking for frills because our stay in Hollywood was to be out seeing the sights. The staff was very friendly as well as helpful. I found out that alot of famous people had stayed in this hotel, so I enjoyed the history. I won’t forget the smell of Jasmine as we walked outdoors to walk to Hollywood Blvd. I will stay here again.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Affordable, Clean and walking distance to Hollywood Blvd.

Great place to stay for a Hollywood trip!

The Highland Gardens is ideal for a quick getaway to Hollywood. The hotel is a block away from Hollywood Blvd. I arrived very late at the hotel but the staff was ready to help make my stay comfortable. My room was very clean and even included a refrigerator and microwave. The only thing the room lacked was a CLOCK. I arrived so late I didn’t ask for one. I would certainly stay here again!

Location, location, location!

Our stay at the Highland Gardens was excellent! I lived in LA for 12 years and didn’t know about this place....it has an old Hollywood feel about it, which I think adds to it’s charm. Our room was in slight disrepair (one bedside light did not work, old carpets) but we were nonetheless pleased with our stay. How can you beat walking one block to Hollywood Blvd??!! I also suggest that you are a pro at judging the size of your car in order to park in the garage. And my boyfriend LOVED the pool. So, overall I would rave rather than complain....I would definitely suggest this place to anyone looking to stay in the Hollywood area. And if you are looking for a late night place to eat, don’t listen to the guy at the front desk.....sure, there is a 24 hour IHOP at Orange and Sunset, but go down a couple more blocks to Santa Monica Blvd. and head west. Barney’s Beanery is open til 2 and they have a amazing menu!

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Grauman’s Chinese Theater, Hollywood’s Walk of Fame, Hollywood Wax Musuem - ALL must see attractions!!

Our stay

When we went to check in the Front desk people were very rude. We also had to change rooms for which the room that they gave us at first stunk real bad. The second room was better.

The location of the hotel was great.

The hotel was very clean, just needed a few minor fixer uppers in the bathroom. The shower head was cracked and water sprayed everywhere.

Could be better

This hotel has a lot of history and that was the only aspect that justified the stay. If youre into staying where some famous people have stayed then this is the place for you. Otherwise, stay somewhere else.

Great Location - Terrible Maintenace

The hotel is one block from Hollywood Walk of the Stars. We loved the location. The pool is fine. My kids loved swimming there. The rooms are totally run down!! Buckling paint, dripping air conditioners (we couldn’t use the AC because of the dripping problem), frayed carpets, etc. The sheets were clean. If you can tolerate all of that, go ahead and make a reservation. It was a decent price for the location, but the room (includes full kitchen) was a bit much.

Brilliant location, clean & well maintained rooms

This hotel doesn’t pretend to be flash or glitzy but does stand up as an excellent choice of hotel on a lower budget. The location of the hotel is hard to beat, just off Hollywood Blvd and with easy access to loads of attractions. The room I had was huge, it was quiet, despite fronting the street and the facilities, including the kitchen were well maintained. This is a little gem of a hotel to which I would be happy to return.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

The hoel is 5 minutes walk from the Hollywood/Highland subway stop. If you don’t have a car, it means it is a lot easier to navigate parts of the city.

Really good hotel

When we first got there the outside is alittle funky and old, I think thats the most they need to concentrate on remodeling. Lounging area, parking, rooms were clean. Front desk were very accomedating and helpful(called the cabs for us, got us some helpful information regarding stores and sites around the area.) Would recommend staying here with family and friends.
