Relax and enjoy the sound of the waves and the quiet little town of Dunkirk, far away from the city. A quaint small town with wineries, fishing and hiking nearby it is a perfect little hidden gem. . Extra cleaning and plenty of room for social distancing and 2 commercial air purifiers this is a great getaway spot for those that are looking for a unique option !

When you arrive at this picturesque property you will find yourself nestled in the middle of a cove between Point Gratiot park and Canadaway Creek on 1.5 acres and 150ft of beachfront on Lake Erie. This listing is for both of our apartments a 1200sq ft 2 bedroom and 1 bathroom upstairs apartment with a separate side door entrance and a King, queen, pullout twin and 2 futons in one apartment and a 1br/1ba unit for the other apartment that includes a balcony, large walk in shower , king and queen bed and 2 futons! This unit is part of the original Hequembourg estate built in 1910. *Harminnie was the original name of this mansion from Major Harry and Minnie Hequembourg (Neighborhood named after him down the street) whom originally owned the entire bay from canadaway creek to crooked brook creek, and actually was a major contributor to the development of the area. He has an amazing background/history and upon arriving you will have a booklet with original pictures of the house and information about a camp he used to run for children in the early 1920's.

In front of our house there is about 5 feet of smooth rocks and then about 200ft of sandbar you can wade in and is perfect for swimming . On the beach you can spend time hunting for beach glass and driftwood, lay out and catch some sun or take a 10 minute walk down to the Dunkirk Boardwalk at the harbor to enjoy a bite to eat, a cocktail, or satisfy a shopping craving with a couple different shops. Dunkirk Harbor also offers a marina and a public launching facility to access Lake Erie.

Do you want to go fishing? Take a charter out of the harbor to try for a famous walleye or try and haul in a big one from the mouth of the creek, which is less than a half mile from the house.

Enjoy concerts and an art scene? Chautauqua Institute is about a 40 minute drive, you can enjoy their symphony, concerts, speaking venues and theater performances. Lake Chautauqua offers many attractions available by boat that includes Midway Amusement Park (great for younger children), Long Point State Park, Panama rocks nature park, shopping, and numerous restaurant/bar establishments. There is truly something for everyone there.

Consider a wine tour if you’re looking to venture away from the lake for a bit. Lake Erie Wine Country, just a 5-10 minute drive from the house is part of the largest grape-growing region east of the Rockies, extends roughly 45 miles from Silver Creek, New York to North East, Pennsylvania. It has become home to over 24 commercial and estate wineries. Check them out at http://www.lakeeriewinecountry.org/about-wine-country .

Other attractions within arms reach include Niagara Falls which is an easy 1hr and 15 minute drive, restaurants (10 minutes walking distance), ski resorts (Holiday valley 1 hr), snowmobile trails, nature trails, golf courses (5 miles), inland lakes, shopping, and a casino (1hr). Also there is a great mini-golf course that is fun for the whole family that is about a 5-10 minute drive from the apt. BILLS FANS our apartment is 35 min from Ralph wilson stadium!

We are located 5 miles from the New York State Thruway (I-90), Exit 59 Dunkirk/Fredonia. From here, you will find that it’s a quick ride to and from the Buffalo (1 hr) or Erie (1 hr 10 min) International Airports.

These apartments support sleeping accommodations for 10 people. Features include: Breathtaking views of Lake Erie throughout the apartment. High Speed internet / Cable. 55" LED TV in living rooms . Bathroom includes a Steam Shower with speaker (AUX hookup), back massage jets and foot massage and the other apartment a large walk in shower

Just an hour west down the shore, beach glass jewelry artists Lorie and Troy Dalrymple, owners of Beaches Jewelers, will host their fifth annual Ashtabula Harbor Beach Glass Festival on June 29 and 30. This street fair will close down the harbor’s Bridge Street with about 70 vendors and nearly 5,000 people.

Amazing Vacation at the Lake
I cannot express enough how much fun our vacation was! The lake is truly amazing and just steps from the house. Julia and Alex provided us with guidance, care and amenities throughout our stay! Last night we had a huge bonfire that we lit up together and they were checking if we needed anything throughout our stay. The house is gorgeous, clean and comfortable. Kitchen were fully stocked - coffee, oil, spices, you name it - it was there! We rented both apartments (for friends family and ours) and it fit 9 people very comfortably (5 adults, 4 kids) plus a dog. Waves on the lake were so much fun! Kids borrowed wake boards and we had a blow up paddle board as well. There are many things to do in the area, plus Niagra Falls and Buffalo are about 1 hour away. Thank you so much for an unforgettable vacation! We will be coming back!

Property in need of attention
Overall we had a good time with family. Having the 2 apartments was convenient. The good things about this property were the location, and fully supplied kitchens. The downside issues were, we had a wet rug in the bedroom that smelled musty. Maintenance was called but couldn’t locate the problem. This historic house needed a lot of work on the property. Overgrown landscape, peeling paint, and lots of clutter, inside and out. The beach was good. The sandbar made it safe for the kids to swim safely. The location was rural in that there were no attractions to see around the house. All in all, we ignored the issues and had a good week. Austin was easy to reach and responsive to our needs.
