#### Relax on scenic beaches, hike to lookouts and explore glacial waters via boat and kayak at the northernmost lake of Argentina’s majestic Seven Lakes Road.

Surrounded by an Andean mountain range, the spectacular Lago Lácar (Lake Lacar) exudes natural beauty and tranquility. Discover this huge glacial lake by foot along waterfront trails and from hilltop lookouts. Admire the extraordinary landscapes from pretty beaches and swim in chilly, crystalline water. Lago Lácar stretches west from the Patagonian town of San Martín de los Andes and covers an area of over 21 square miles (55 square kilometers).

Get a great introduction to the lake while strolling on the Costanera waterfront of San Martín de los Andes. Gaze across the calm water and up at the lush native forests enveloping distant mountain slopes. Look south to see the dramatic terrain and volcanic peak of Lanín National Park. Sit on the town’s beach and marvel at the postcard-perfect views or take an invigorating dip in the icy water.

Join a boat trip to Hua Hum, where the lake begins its journey through Chile to the Pacific Ocean. Most tours make scheduled stops at beaches, islands, waterfalls and woodland settlements. Escape the crowds with a trip to Catritre Beach or Quila Quina Beach, both accessible by bike, boat or car. Get active and traverse the lake via rented kayak or boat.

Enjoy uninterrupted views and superb photo opportunities from Mirador Bandurrias, a lookout set in the heart of a Mapuche people village. Drive about 30 minutes or walk 2 hours from the Costanera waterfront. Continue through thick woodland and past Mapuche homes to La Islita Beach. For more impressive panoramas, hike deep into Lanín National Park to Mirador Arrayanes.

Find the lake on the shores of San Martín de los Andes, in the Argentine province of Neuquén. It marks the northern end of the Seven Lakes Road, a section of scenic Ruta 40 that passes picturesque Patagonian countryside on its way to Villa la Angostura.

You can visit Lago Lácar year-round, although strong winds are common in the winter months. Stay overnight at hotels and hostels in San Martín de los Andes or at various campgrounds around the lake.

Large bedroom separated from the living room and dining area. Large bathroom with hot tub heated floors. Great wifi. The full kitchen: fridge, sink, stove, toaster and microwave were great to relax outside with some hot beverages. The floor has amonite fossils. The hotel has a telescope and upon coordination they brought an astronomer. She was very knowledgeable and gave us an hour of observation and explanation of what we were watching in English and Spanish. The staff are very nice and helpful in suggesting good activities in the area. Breakfast was delivered to our room between 8-10am upon coordination with the front desk. The location is not in the city, about a 15min drive to the city which makes it much more quiet and nice. The views are spectacular especially in the mornings.
