Over the last 5 years, we've rented 5 VRBO apartments in Italy: the first 4 were all wonderful, comfortable and fully equipped. This one in San Foca was by far THE WORST!..well below any acceptable standard. First of all, the pictures were misleading. There are in fact 2 similar apartments: they took pictures of sections of BOTH and coalesced them to make a visual that made the apartment look larger and better. The main (small) room is simply composed of a square table with 4 plastic chairs and another chair in a corner. The kitchen is so small that you can't be 2 persons at once. There is almost no equipment in the kitchen: no cooking knives, no thermal mittens, no salt, pepper or anything else. To make coffee you have to boil water in a pan and pour it in one of the 4 cups. No toaster...try making a toast by holding your bread over a gas stove! So basically, we never ate in the apartment...which is a huge monetary disadvantage. Almost all the equipment was cheap, the lowest quality. Your single weekly towel would fall off the towel rack because it was so flimsy it was crooked. Same thing with the shelves: our items would slide off and fall. The 2 mattresses were so very uncomfortable that I found a piece of foam mat that I slept on: in other words, I slept on the floor (!!!) 20 consecutive nights. The bedroom was so small that the cupboard doors could only be opened halfway since they abutted on the bed. To access the apartment, you had to walk thru a bar, push a heavy door and find your way upstairs: the apartment is right over that bar which makes for quite a bit of noise in the evening and early morning. The alcove, which seems to be a comfortable area on the pictures, is situated in the back, strangled by the walls of the adjacent buildings: there are plaster or cement granules eroding daily from those walls and covering the little bit of uncomfortable furniture there. The owner stated that she could communicate in Italian, French or English: in fact she speaks only italian. The beach was nice however, except for late in the afternoon when we HAD to go back to our little, uncomfortable apartment...This in fact was one of my worst vacations ever. I can't accept that VRBO advertises this type of cheap, uncomfortable and low-grade housing. I feel that we should have a substantial refund or I will never again deal with VRBO if it doesn't insure a good-level minimum standard for all their accommodations. I WANT to write to VRBO!!!
