Good hotel for the price

Posted Feb 4, 2016
Hotel staff at the reception area were friendly during check in and check out. Rooms are a decent and the bed was comfortable. Only cons I found there to be were cigarette holes in the comforter and the hallways had a faint odor of marijuana- coyld have been from passing one of the rooms. No odor inside of my room specifically though.

Fair price. Clean enough.

Posted Dec 30, 2015
Single room cost $100, including taxes. It is close to JFK. Amenities are fine . WiFi worked well. I would come back if I wanted to spend as little as possible but wanted the basics. Parking was good too. It is cheap an gets the job done. Should include lids fir coffee cups and some fruit, bananas are cheap. There is noise from traffic outside, a truck or a train...but didn't have problem sleeping. The shower was good. My favorite hotel us Hampton Inn, but it was about $70 more expensive and I was traveling alone , without kids, so thus was a better option.

Convenient if you have a car in Queens

Posted Dec 22, 2015
Pros: Free/ ample/ available parking
Cons: Maintenance
Location: Subway, Popeyes, Dunkin Donuts, Belmont Park Race Track. 1/2 hr drive to Brooklyn, 1hr drive to Manhattan.
This hotel is fairly far away from Manhattan, but it is very convenient if you have a car and are visiting Queens/ Brooklyn. It is very hard to find an affordable hotel with free/ available parking in Brooklyn/ Queens, so usually if you want to visit Queens or Brooklyn by car you would have to find a place with free parking in Staten Island or Jersey, and then drive across several toll bridges each day (or pay extra each day for parking). However, this Ho Jo is located in Queens and has ample free parking. There are no tolls to pay if you want to travel fro this hotel to anywhere in Queens/ Brooklyn. There is also a subway, popeyes, and dunkin donuts within a block or two. It is a five minute drive to Belmont park, the triple crown horse race track. The hotel was fairly quiet, although there is a subway train which runs behind the hotel so bring some earplugs if you are a light sleeper. The room is spacious and comfortable, compared to similarly priced rooms in jersey or staten island, for example. The room I stayed in could have used some maintenance, however, as the shower curtain rod was loose from the wall.

Clean and Convenient

Posted Dec 22, 2015
Pros: The waffles for breakfast, plus they serve good coffee.
Cons: There is a persistent odor like stale cigarettes throughout the hotel. They should invest in some air freshener! Plus the sheets were a bit ragged.
It's a good place to use as a base while in New York.

Expedia messed up

Posted Dec 18, 2015
We had originally booked a smoking room through Expedia but upon arriving to the hotel the person who checked us in told us it was s non smoking facility. We were very upset because we had travelled quite a distance for a smoking room because all other smoking hotels were booked. The person checking us in was very understanding and he apologized about the mix up and proceeded to upgrade us for free. He was very kind and checked up on us once just to make sure everything was ok. We stood for one night. The room was super clean. Cleaner than the hotel rooms around the area and although the hotel was only two floors we weren't bothered by any outside noise. I liked it. Very cozy.

The entire hotel wreaks of cigarette smoke.

Posted Dec 8, 2015
The entire hotel smelled moldy and smoky and damp. I brought a friend here and was ashamed to let her even stay in a place like this. Yuck!! It was worse than 2 stars more like a half star. Never again will i go cheap. Do yourself a favor, pay a little more for your comfort and peice of mind. 2 star hotels are a dump. You are worth more than that. Please, beware....
