Villa CalaLuna - Ocean-Front Luxury Villa from House Hunters International

Adults-only villa in Manuel Antonio
A Home as sensual as its setting - avant-garde minimalist architecture (Metropolitan Home of the Year) in the heart of Manuel Antonio!

Villa CalaLuna
Perched on a steep tropical hill-side above the Pacific Ocean, just minutes north of famous Manuel Antonio National Park, this stunning architectural gem showcases an inspired modern spin on Jungle Geometry: The Villa's spine - 2 immense almond beams - is supported by a double row of massive columns that march through the tri-level 'great room' to a panoramic window-wall, marking the increase in ceiling height from 14 - 24 feet, as the space steps down.

From the entrance porch, strikingly sculptured stairs either levitate to a lofty mezzanine and further up to the master suite and sun-deck above, or widen as they flow down to the kitchen/dining level and the living room below - always inviting to double as seating. The vast floor-to-ceiling glass facade opens to a water-edged living terrace shaded by 3 smartly suspended sails, while high cedar doors attend the side-wing-suite on the right side of the living room level.

CalaLuna was designed to be in tune with its tropical landscape - open to the sea breezes, the scent of ylang ylang trees and the ever-changing light of its rainforest environment. Rooms extend onto expansive balconies, patios and hammock-strung terraces, while the magnificent infinity pool is carved into the hillside and embedded in lush tropical vegetation - shimmering sea views from everywhere.

White walls and sand-colored polished cement floors are offset by playful splashes of color - sun-drenched orange, reds and fuchsia - black granite kitchen counters and richly grained native woods.

A haven completely calm and serene contrasting the abundance of the jungle’s greenery - boldly simple in its furnishings and always sophisticated in its fusion of honest materials and textures - concrete, steel, glass, granite, slate, flagstone and plenty of local hard-woods.

Minimal in decor and yet rich in space, light, ideas and imagination.

Bday stay
We enjoyed the house. The views are remarkable and breathtaking. The top room is the hardest to get too but has the best views of the jungle and the pool and ocean. The stairs in the house only have one sided railings. This house is definitely not for kids or handicapped. Also if you are drunk it would be super dangerous in there. If you’re not into climbing alot of stairs this house is not for you. It is a hike to get to and from the house to the main road. The driveway is VERY STEEP and long. There are lizards in the house and baby bats outside the top bedroom window. I called them my pets. Lol. If you are bothered by that, this house is not for you. But overall I loved the infiniti pool and the views and the stylish house. The propert manager Maria was super helpful as well. We had a great time at the house and in costa rica!!

4/5 Good

Fabulous location in Manuel Antonio
This property was beautiful and the perfect location for our trip. The property manager was very attentive and helpful with all of our inquiries. We had 10 women for a bachelorette party, but it was a little tight in the bedrooms. We weren't aware that some of the beds were in open/common spaces that weren't air conditioned. The air conditioning in the bedrooms was nice, but the units are placed right above the bed in every bedroom that has air conditioning so it was not comfortable with them blowing on your face all night. For more of a luxury type house and pricing you would expect more luxury accommodations everything was very minimal and the beds were very flat and lumpy. I couldn't believe one of the beds was hanging from a chain in the basement, We had to take the mattress off of the hanging chain because people were feeling sick swinging all night and some of the chains looked worn out. A small couch with a curtain was listed as another single bed, but that wouldn't fit any adult that I know and the house is really not suitable for children. Overall we enjoyed the space and the sunsets and the pool area in the jungle and easy access to walking all of manuel antonio. The driveway is not for the faint of heart and very steep to drive up and down in 4x4 drive for the experienced driver only. I would say this would fit 3 couples (6 people) comfortably, but really no more than that.

3 couples traveling together - beautiful home, awesome view
Our group really enjoyed the stay. The concierge was very responsive and willing to schedule anything we needed. Steep driveway, the walk-up will certainly get your blood flowing for the day!

Couples Vacay!
This is such a beautiful villa and the property management was outstanding......does not disappoint. Maria was fantastic and having a chef one evening was delicious!! She even cooked the mahi mahi we caught that day :-) Must give a little heads up that it is a trek on a steep incline getting to street level from the villa even if you are in decent shape. Most cabs will not drop off or come to get you esp. if it is raining. Bedroom on the top floor is fab with beautiful views but the stairs are steep and narrow.....might be challenging after cocktails.

5/5 Excellent

CalaLuna was Awesome!
We spend 5 days at CalaLuna, and it was a spectacular property for a nice getaway with our 3 kids (aged 15+). Some random thoughts: 1. Great location and walking distance for restaurants, small supermarket and the beach. Can take bus ($0.60 per person) to beach and Nat'l park very easily (we walked once to beach...downhill and wasn't too long/hard). 2. We had several dinners and breakfasts cooked in the home from the recommended chefs. Prices were reasonable and were below estimate 3. AC in the bedrooms was great! 4. Internet was adequately speedy. Not accessible by the pool or some rooms 5. Pool was great, very clean and refreshing 6. Communication with concierge (Thomas) before trip was great. He set up transportation from airport, and our excursions 7. Maria (our concierge during our time there) was great and was available as needed (which wasn't much) 8. We did the ATV tour and Zipline at Midwood at the rec of Thomas. We did on seperate days and loved both. 9. We did the boat cruise and snorkeling on day. Nice ride. The snorkeling was not good, but think it was the time of year..but we are also spoiled. The water wasn't very clear. 10. The views from the house are amazing! 11. One day we have monkeys all around the pool in back yard and even a sloth, which was moving in very clear view near the pool 12. The drive was about 2:45 from the main airport, which wasn't too bad, mostly good roads 13. Driveway is steep, so can be tough if not physically capable...wasn't terrible though 14. Overall, felt very safe 15. Would come back!!
