I used the online app and "pre-checked" in the day before, upon arriving the staff at the desk I informed the staff of that, he didnt ask for an ID or my confirmation #, just my last name, gave me one key/card and told me the room #. When we went to that room, I used the key card, only to find it was already occupied (lights were on and belongings inside). We returned to the front desk and the staff then tried telling me that I had "already checked in to my room hours earlier", to which I argued that I had used the online check in the day before, but had not physically been on the premises until then. This "debate" went on, even after I made him finally look at my ID. He finally apologized and gave me 2 keys for a different room. I am very glad I did not encounter someone in the first room or this situation would have been even worse.
