Hop between islands in this remote Indian Ocean archipelago, which is famed for its chalk-white beaches, coral reefs, rich cultural history and luxury resorts.

Some 115 coral and granite islands make up the Seychelles, an independent island nation in the Indian Ocean. Enjoy nature at its finest by snorkeling in jewel-toned waters, walking through palm marshes and taking in panoramic views from the cliffs.

The French first settled Seychelles in 1770 and over time, the island chain has also been influenced by people from across Europe, Africa and Asia. Today, the Seychelles is multiethnic, blending elements of its colonial heritage while simultaneously embracing local customs such as Creole music and dance.

The main island of Mahé has an exciting cultural scene. Stop by the Eden Art Gallery to see the largest collection of contemporary art in Seychelles. Discover traditional Creole customs atDomaine de Val des Près, where you can find local craft workshops and examples of historic Creole architecture.

The more remote islands of the Seychelles hold beautiful natural treasures. Take a boat out to Aride Island Nature Reserve, a secluded island that is home to 1 million birds including native species such as fodies and brush warblers. Wildlife-watching opportunities also abound in the dense mangrove forests at Curieuse Marine National Park on Curieuse Island and in the fish-filled coral reefs off Île des Deux Cocos.

Lazy days in the Seychelles are best spent on the beach. Listen to the calming sounds of the waves at Anse Georgette, a powdery stretch of sand on Praslin Island, known for its safe swimming conditions.

Seychelles has a warm, tropical climate that allows beach time year-round. If you are planning on spending time diving, arrange your trip from April, May, October or November when water temperatures are at their peak.

Most visitors will arrive to Seychelles International Airport on the island of Mahé. A ferry runs daily between the islands of Praslin and La Digue. Buses are the main method of public transportation on Mahé and Praslin.

With idyllic beaches, lush nature reserves and diverse cultural influences, the Seychelles provide an escape from the bustle of the modern world.
