Charlie’s Retreat provides a rare mix of elegant Sea Ranch design, stunning ocean views, and practical comfort for a relaxing vacation. Designed by legendary Sea Ranch architect Obie Bowman, this 4-bedroom, 4-bath home centers on a great room/kitchen with floor-to-ceiling windows and gorgeous panoramic ocean views. Four ensuite bedrooms flank both sides of the great room, creating ample space for privacy, remote working, reading a good book, or just gazing at the ocean and west meadow wildlife. Both primary suites have stunning views, one with its private deck. All bedrooms have desks and computer monitors too – if you need to work or start on that novel you’ve always wanted to write. With an open concept great room/kitchen/dining room, cook in the well-stocked kitchen while friends sip wine and kids play board games or watch a movie The home’s outdoor spaces are abundant, with an enclosed courtyard garden at the front and an expansive ocean-view deck off the great room. Towels, linens, beds, and furniture all comfortable and high quality. The books and games were another plus. Thoughtful hosts. And the Sea Ranch rec options also enjoyable--sauna, pickleball, swimming, and of course the ocean. Highly recommend. Could not read the temp control or mode dials & inside very dark. Outside fire pit would not light. Patio heaters did not work. Espresso maker not working. South bathroom toilet backed up & had to be snaked two days in a row. Electrical outlet in south bedroom could not be used. Screen door off south bedroom would not open. Screen door from dining area to back deck very hard to open. Nice house, great floor plan with lots of light, clean linens, plenty of cooking utensils, dishware, new gas cooktop & dishwasher. Reviewer Comments: Brought myself,husband, three adult children, their partners and two young grandchildren for a long weekend stay. The four bedrooms are comfortable - two have ocean views, all have attached bathrooms. The amenities are wonderful for a large group - coffee makers, lots of large pots and pans, really all the appliances that are needed with large fridges and plenty of baking goods. Vacation homes aren't always as good in reality as they are in the photos, but Charlies Retreat did not disappoint. Its a short walk to the trail heads and even short walk to Del Mar rec center - a huge plus. It's also quite private - we never saw a neighbor while there. The interior is exactly as pictured and though the renovations are older they were clearly well done/timeless and the furniture has mostly been updated making the house feel very fresh and high end. It's filled with interesting books and the kitchen is extremely well stocked. The fireplace was not working while we were there and the outdoor fireplace overlooking the ocean looks like it's seen better days, but otherwise the house was immaculate.
