We left halfway through our stay, could no longer endure the coughing, the spiders, the smell of death from the oven, the ever-present moisture and dampness and general stench of the place. It is filthy. Pet hair everywhere. The internet was not usable and a complete disaster for our working trip. A tv is supplied but lacks any signal - no cable, no streaming, it is a blank monitor. I attempted to hook up my iPad but with a feeble WiFi signal it was pointless. The 'air conditioning' is a single wall unit from 1971 that is incredibly noisy, can't be used on high for fear of tripping a breaker, and barely cools the one room it is in. This place continues to haunt my dreams. Security was an issue as many doors and windows would not shut or lock. There were rodent droppings in a kitchen drawer. Burned out light bulbs. There was a Keurig which lacked the water receptacle, so it was useless. Broken appliances. Most taps are hooked backwards, hot and cold reversed. Frustratingly, home reno books abound on the flithy bookshelf. My attempts to get a refund for the remainder of our stay went unanswered and VRBO informed me they would continue our discussion by email and I heard nothing. It was my first VRBO stay and it will be my last. ##### Ian C. There's a strong mildew smell. Within the hour of arriving, my children had allergic reactions. Discovered mats of pet hair in the carpet and a vacuum cleaner packed with animal hair. Attempted to contact the host by phone that went straight to voicemail, attempted to inbox him through VRBO. Called VRBO within the hour of arrival to file a complaint that due to health and safety we were unable to stay. We submitted pictures and videos, and left the house within 90 minutes. VRBO put us up in a hotel that evening. The host texted me within 5 minutes of us leaving and when I explained the situation and asked for a full refund, he had responded "ok great let me talk to VRBO and let them know about the refund once it's processed it should take about 24 hours to be in your account". I waited and didn't receive a refund, called VRBO 2 days later where the host told them he needed to check on the property, despite me answering his question in text about the condition and that we were there no longer than 90 minutes. I called again 2 days after the booking was completed as I still didn't receive a refund. The host told VRBO that we never cancelled the reservation as requested. We were never told by the host or VRBO at any point to cancel the reservation and it seems like the host waited until the reservation was done to argue this. The host issued a partial refund and I have initiated a credit card dispute. ##### Cari G.
